The authors describe the results of studying lipid peroxidation and ultrastructure of blood cells in children aged 1 month to 2 years, suffering from chronic distress of nutrition of the hypotrophy type. Appreciable disorders of the membranes of blood cells and their organoids were found, related to activation of free radical lipid oxidation in diseased children. The relationship was noted between destructive changes in the ultrastructure of the biological membranes and the disease gravity, duration of the effect of the high content of lipid peroxidation products on cellular and subcellular membranes. The disorganization of the membrane ultrastructure in the body of patients with hypotrophy is an important component in the disease pathogenesis and requires administration of membrane-stabilizing therapy in a complex of treatment measures.

Submicroscopic changes of thyrocytes and perifollicular capillarites were studied in pubertal guinea pig males on the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days of burn disease. During the burn shock macrofollicles formed by flattened thyrocytes dominated in the thyroid gland. The capillaries were characterized by the lumen dilatation and disturbance of the wall ultrastructure. The cells increased in height, and there was hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the intracellular organellae on the 7th and the 14th days. Along with hyperplastic processes in thyrocytes and endothelial cells destruction of the membrane cell components developed which caused deep necroblas cell injury and severe disturbances of the vascular parenchymatous relationships in the organ at later periods of the disease (the 21st and 28th days).
Electron microscopic changes occurring in peripheral blood lymphocytes of diabetes mellitus children are described. In the disease of medium severity, the protein-synthesizing apparatus volume in the blood cells decreases. Destabilization and loosening of plasmic and organoid membranes of agranulocytes are seen. In several cases subcellular reconstruction is combined with a profound destruction of mitochondrial membrane components and reticular cytoplasmic elements. The children with severe diabetes mellitus manifest pronounced alterations in lymphocytes. This disease pattern is marked by the involvement of both the ultrastructural components of the cytoplasm and the cellular nuclear apparatus, indicating stable inhibition of blood lymphocyte function. As a of multiple modality treatment the processes of intracellular reparative regeneration are activated, however the status of the blood lymphocyte membranes does not completely return to normal.
