A simple expert system shell for microcomputer-aided radiographic diagnosis.

A simple microcomputer-based expert system shell for radiographic diagnosis is described. The system interrogates the user by means of a simple question--and-answer approach on the radiographic findings in a given case and proffers a differential diagnosis from a database. The system also allows listing of both the radiographic findings pertinent to a specific diagnosis and all diagnoses in which a particular finding or combination of findings occur. The system database can be easily updated or modified by the user. The demonstration application for the expert system shell is the plain film diagnosis of osseous dysplasia.

Radiologic staging of lung carcinoma: a report generator and database system.

A checklist used by the radiologist interpreting images on lung carcinoma patients for tumor staging is described. The checklist data is subsequently entered into a user friendly microcomputer program which radiologically stages lung carcinoma according to the updated TNM system, maintains an upgradable relational database and generates printed reports for tumor board meetings.

Portable obstetrical ultrasound calculation and analysis using an inexpensive laptop microcomputer and simple basic program.

This paper describes the use of a commercially available inexpensive portable laptop microcomputer and a simple user-friendly software package that allows rapid, portable obstetrical ultrasound calculation in the reading room, delivery suite, office setting, or over the telephone. The program is written in BASIC and may be modified by the user. The programming philosophy is described and a variety of BASIC subroutines and formulae useful to the obstetrical sonologist are listed. All fetal parameter formulae are referenced.
