A 34-year-old man with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome presented with multiple skin lesions clinically suggestive of molluscum contagiosum. Three skin biopsy specimens were obtained which showed dermal abscesses containing multiple gram-positive cocci admixed with granular necrotic dermal material. In 2, there were cytomegalic inclusions present in macrophages and endothelial cells within the granulation tissue; immunohistochemistry was positive for cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigens. One biopsy specimen also contained a few acid-fast bacilli associated with mononuclear inflammatory cells. Cultures from the lesions grew Staphylococcus aureus and the lesions resolved when the patient was administered a course of systemic cephalosporin. Although lesions with multiple infectious agents have been reported in immunosuppressed patients, this is the first case describing the association of 3 organisms in a single skin biopsy specimen.
Five cases of superficial epithelioma with sebaceous differentiation (SESD) are reported. They occurred as solitary papules on the face of 5 patients, aged 57 to 72. The tumor is characterized by a superficial platelike proliferation of basaloid to squamoid cells with broad attachments to the overlying epidermis. Clusters of mature sebaceous cells are present within the tumors. None of the tumors have recurred or spread following simple excision. SESD is a non-aggressive tumor of uncertain histogenesis with a tendency toward sebaceous differentiation.

S-100 protein was demonstrated in the cytoplasm of dendritic cells (DCs) in normal and pathologic lymphoid tissues and epidermis in man and several other species. The presence of S-100 protein served to distinguish these cells from other mononuclear cells, most importantly from those of macrophage/histiocyte lineage. Fractionation procedures to isolate and enrich suspensions of DCs were coupled with immunocytochemical techniques to identify S-100-positive cells. Langerhans cells in the epidermis and in aural cholesteatomata and nodal, splenic, and thymic interdigitating cells were S-100-positive. Lymph node and splenic follicular dendritic cells (except in rats) were negative, indicating that this DC may be a separate cell type.

1. A procedure for the routine assay of Naproxen in serum by ultraviolet spectrophotometry is presented. The absorption coefficient (A1 1% cm) of Naproxen in methanol at 261 nm was found to be 216. 2. The Naproxen procedure appears to be relatively free from interferences of commonly coadministered medications. Salicylate interference is eliminated by a modified procedure. 3. Concentrations of Naproxen in a limited number (40) of clinical samples ranged from non-detected to 12.5 mg/dl. The therapeutic concentration appears to be 4 to 6 mg/dl (174-260 mumol/L).
