Radial nerve palsy caused by injections.

Fifty-six cases of radial palsy due to injections have been seen during the last 13 years. Thirteen patients recovered spontaneously. Seven patients were treated by neurolysis, of which five had full recovery in 1 year. The remaining patients were treated by modified Robert Jones transfers. In ten cases flexor carpi ulnaris was spared as a strong flexor of the wrist, which improved the results in heavy manual workers. Radial nerve palsy caused by injection is an avoidable injury. There is a need for proper training of paramedical workers.

Acute carpal tunnel syndrome in Hansen's disease.

Two cases of acute carpal tunnel syndrome due to median nerve abscess as a consequence of Hansen's disease are reported. Nerve abscess as a cause of acute carpal tunnel syndrome is rare.

A new surgical technique for old ununited lateral condyle fractures of the humerus in children.

It is difficult to achieve an anatomic reduction of old lateral condyle humeral fractures in spite of extensive excision of fibrous tissues from the condylar fragment. The long-standing displaced position of the condyle is responsible for the contracture of the origin of the common extensor tendon, which prevents anatomic reduction. In our technique, lengthening of the common extensor origin was done and anatomic reduction achieved. This technique has been tried successfully in 15 cases of neglected fractures of lateral humeral condyles in children.

Treatment of un-united fractures of the shaft of the humerus with bent nail.

The results of operative treatment of 78 cases of un-united fractures of the humeral diaphysis are reported. The operation consisted of medullary nail fixation, the nail being bent at the fracture site in order to engage the cortex above and below the fracture, and was followed by plaster splintage. Forty-nine cases showed evidence of union within 20 weeks and 21 united between 20 and 30 weeks. Of the remaining cases, two had broken nails and five were lost to follow-up.
