The transfusion of only 4 ml of group A blood resulted in sudden death of a cat that was recovering from surgery. The clinical signs were similar in many respects to those exhibited by tranquilized group B cats when challenge exposed for the 1st time with incompatible A cells. The distribution of the A and B blood group antigens and the occurrence of naturally occurring isoantibodies in the cat were considered in relation to the probability of producing transfusion reactions. The results obtained with tranquilized and anesthetized cats demonstrated that immediate reactions can occur following the 1st transfusion of incompatible red blood cells. Cross matching with respect to the AB system is recommended before giving blood transfusions to cats.
The present study investigated the hypothesis that preschool children who spend more time in social play than in non-social play would be more field-dependent than their field-independent counterparts. Over-all the hypothesis was supported by the results. Although the social-non-social dimension appeared to account for most of the findings, correlations between individual play activities and field dependence suggested that this single dimension could not adequately account for all of the findings. The dimension of perceptual-motor demand required in some of the activities may have been involved as well. Discussion focused on the complexity of the play preference, cognitive findings, and on sex differences as well.
In order to determine whether performance on the Preschool Embedded-figures Test, a measure of field independence for young children, involves processes shared by aspects of intellectual functioning, a factor analysis which included the Preschool Embedded-figures Test and all of the subtests of the WPPSI was carried out on a group of 169 4-1/2-yr.-olds. For both sexes the Preschool Embedded-figures Test loaded a common factor shared also by WPPSI Block Design and Geometric Design. This factor was identified as a perceptual analytic factor and was demonstrated to be similar to the analytic factor identified by Goodenough and Karp (1961) at older age levels.

This report details the independent laboratory study of the BAX for Screening/Salmonella assay to complete AOAC Performance Tested Method certification. The performance of the BAX system was compared with those of BAM culture methods on food samples inoculated with Salmonella. This study validated product claims. Performance Tested Method status was granted for the screening assay.
