Bilateral optic disc neovascularization in association with retinitis pigmentosa.

Bilateral neovascularization of the optic disc developed in a 16-year-old Hispanic girl with retinitis pigmentosa. The neovascularization regressed in both eyes over 1 year without treatment. Ocular and systemic evaluation failed to reveal a recognized cause for the neovascularization. To our knowledge this is only the third case reported of this unusual association.

Adolescent

Spontaneous remission of glaucoma in scleromalacia perforans: a case report.

Spontaneous resolution of glaucoma in a patient with scleromalacia perforans is described. Fluorophotometric measurements established the presence of normal aqueous production. The reduced intraocular pressure is ascribed to either autolysis of the trabecular meshwork and/or maximization of the uveoscleral pathway.

Aged

A new technique of visual field evaluation for unilateral ptosis.

A technique of uniocular visual field testing under binocular viewing conditions for evaluation of unilateral ptosis is described. The eye with the nonptotic lid is covered with a red filter, and both eyes fixate the white fixation light while a green test light is used. The resultant field reveals the true functional field loss due to the ptosis and avoids changes due to the patient elevating his brow.

New techniques in fundus examination: II. A new simplified technique for binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy.

A new technique of binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy uses a Finhoff transilluminator, held between the observer's eyes, as the light source. The light is focused in the patient's dilated pupil through a condensing lens in a darkened room and the image is seen stereoscopically. The advantages and limitations of this technique and the optical principles are highlighted.

Fundus Oculi

A new technique for portable gonioscopy.

We have developed a new technique for low-power gonioscopic examination of the anterior chamber angle. We use X4 binocular loupes for magnification and a portable halogen-streak retinoscope as the light source focused on a gonioscopic lens.

Bed Rest

A new technique for portable slit examination.

A new technique is presented for obtaining a portable low-power slit view of the cornea and anterior chamber by using a halogen streak retinoscope as the light source and binocular loupes or an aspheric + 20 diopter lens for magnification.
