Developing stimulating and innovative educational episodes poses a challenge to nurse educators. The technique of gaming is making a comeback on the educational scene as it facilitates internalization of concepts and promotes affective learning and the application of psychomotor skills. The theoretical use of gaming strategies, development, implementation, and applicability in staff development is discussed.

A strategic plan for implementing nursing diagnosis into daily practice.

Staff development educators are instrumental as change agents in identifying the need for change, developing and implementing a strategic plan to unfreeze, change, and refreeze learning behavior, and evaluating its effectiveness. This article examines an attempt at one facility to implement nursing diagnosis into daily practice through the use of Lewin's change theory. The impact of driving and restraining forces is discussed as they facilitated or hindered adaptation to change throughout the process.

A newsletter: an innovative teaching strategy.

A variety of teaching strategies are used by staff development and inservice educators to foster adult learning. The authors have found a service newsletter to be an effective means to informally communicate with and educate staff. A newsletter can serve as a means of providing a pleasurable and leisurely learning experience.
