[Arthritis following post-traumatic pancreatitis with subsequent pseudocyst in children].

The authors report on a nine-year-old boy who presented with arthritic complaints at the wrists and joints of the feet 6 weeks after posttraumatic pancreatitis with development of a pseudocyst. These complaints subsided only after spontaneous voiding of the contents of the cyst into the abdominal cavity. The pathogenesis, diagnosis and surgical indication in posttraumatic pancreatic pseudocysts are discussed.

[Diagnosis and therapy of intraperitoneal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst in ventriculoperitoneal cerebrospinal fluid shunts in patients with hydrocephalus].

Problems of an intraabdominal CSF cyst following ventriculoperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus are demonstrated in an 8 1/2-month-old female infant. Whereas previously tentative diagnosis was made by plain abdominal x-ray and could be verified by laparotomy only, repeated ultrasound investigations now allow for early recognition of this complication. As it happened in this case, laparotomy was not necessary and mere aspiration of cyst contents via distal catheter followed by insertion of the distal catheter into the right atrium was sufficient. This method is an alternative to transabdominal cyst puncture and conventional surgical cyst resection.

[Pasini and Pierini idiopathic and progressive atrophoderma in childhood].

In an eleven year old girl Atrophodermia idiopathica et progressiva Pasini et Pierini, a rare variety of localised scleroderma developed within six months as well outlined, reddish-brown, patchy lesions without induration on her right side. The histological examination revealed perivascular inflammatory infiltrations in all corium layers, and discrete sclerosis radiating into fat tissue cells. The levels of antinuclear antibodies and C-reactive protein were both elevated. During intravenous therapy with penicillin G the skin alterations faded but did not disappear.

[Adrenal hemorrhage in the newborn infant].

Three cases of adrenal hemorrhage requiring surgery are reported in newborn infants. In one case surgery was necessary because of massive retroperitoneal bleeding and in two other cases adrenal neoplasms had been suspected preoperatively. Diagnosis, differential-diagnosis and indication for surgical intervention will be discussed for adrenal hemorrhage in the neonatal period.
