Localization of 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate in skin lesions of pseudoxanthoma elasticum.

Increased uptake of 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) is demonstrated in a patient with pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) at the affected site. PXE is a hereditary disease with variable expression. Calification of dermal elastic fibers is a characteristic feature of affected skin. Recently, apatite crystals were identified in the affected skin of the patients with PXE. The mechanism of uptake of 99mTc-MDP is probably related to chemisorption of the tracer onto hydroxyapatite crystals in the affected dermis.

Radionuclide Meckelogram with particular reference to false-positive results.

Abdominal imaging 99mTc-pertechnetate is a most sensitive and noninvasive procedure for detecting Meckels diverticulum. However, false-positive results are unavoidable. We report two in which false-positive results were obtained and present a summary of reported false-positive results.

Oxyphilic adenoma of the parotid gland. Identification with 99mTc-pertechnetate.

Oxyphilic adenoma of the parotid gland is a rare benign tumor. In the case presented, increased concentration of 99mTc-pertechnetate was seen in the tumor. The only other neoplasm which is known to consistently concentrate pertechnetate is papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum (Warthin's tumor).

An evaluation of 99mTc-sulfur colloid liver scintiscans and their usefulness in metastatic workup: a review of 1,424 studies.

To determine the clinical usefulness of liver scintiscanning in detecting metastatic disease of the liver, 1,424 liver studies performed on 1,115 patients were reviewed along with their charts. Five hundred eighty-one patients had histopathological evaluation by needle biopsy of the liver, laparotomy, and/or autopsy within a mean period of 40 days of liver scan. The histopatholigical findings were correlated with the liver sicntiscan findings and the latter gave an overall accuracy of 77.3%.
