[The strategy and basic trends in optimizing immunoprophylaxis among the troops].

On the basis of complex analysis of the present situation and problems of immunization in the Armed Forces the authors worked out the scientific substantiation of the principles and trends towards the improvement of immunoprophylaxis among servicemen. The article provides epidemiological evidence concerning the necessity to make a transition to a principle of a complex associated immunization, maintaining unchanged three basic regional schemes, as well as a 2-stage immunization with different approach to the various categories of servicemen, and a 4-5-valent protective vaccine complex for the first-term enlistees. The authors worked out a variant of a calendar and schedules for prophylactic vaccination of personnel in the Armed Forces of Russian Federation in peaceful time.

[The prospects for using inactivated influenza vaccines on the troops].

The article analyses the results of controlled epidemiologic observation made in military unit to estimate the immunological and clinico-epidemiological efficiency of national inactivated influenza vaccines with different valency and antigen charge in inoculative dose. The analysis proves the high immunogenic activity and protective features of inactivated influenza trivaccines with enhanced contents of hemagglutinins. The article substantiates the reasons for mass application of these vaccines in military units with obligatory addition of B-component and enhanced antigen contents of vaccine viruses in inoculative dose.

[The clinico-epidemiological efficacy of thymogen in acute respiratory viral infections in a military collective].

This study gathers the results of epidemiological examination in training military unit, making evaluation of prophylactic efficiency of timogen, i.e. synthetic peptide of thymus for flu and other acute respiratory infections (ARI). The high clinico-epidemiological efficiency of timogen was proved in intranasal and subcutaneous administration that had led to a considerable reduction of morbidity rate, gravity and duration of ARI. Experimental substantiation for timogen administration was obtained that proved its efficiency for flu and other ARI prophylaxis in military units.

[The adaptation of the human immune system during an ecological disaster].

This article studies the adaptative mechanisms of the immune system of servicemen in the Aral Sea region in response to the influence of unfavourable xenobiotic factors of the environment. The greatest homeostatic shifts were disclosed in servicemen of the 2nd and the 4th periods of service (6 months and 2 years of active duty correspondingly). Precisely these periods of selective service have the highest infectivity index. It is recommended to measure the volume of catabolic products of cell receptors (P-proteins) in order to obtain an integral index which could characterize the adaptative mechanisms of the immune system during the screening of servicemen in the conditions of unfavourable environment.

[Body immunocorrection when vaccination is contraindicated (a clinico-epidemiological validation)].

The article summarizes the results of epidemiological observation which was performed in one of the training units. The goals of this observation were to estimate the prophylactic efficiency of the selected application of Natrii nucleinas in persons with the lowered immunoresistance on the background of antigrip immunization. A high clinico-epidemiological effectiveness ws approved for 10-days administration of the Natrii nucleinas in persons with clinic manifestations of grip and other respiratory infections at the moment of vaccination. It is resulted in the diminishing of the morbidity index, duration and gravity of this pathology in the postvaccinal period. The administration of Natrii nucleinas was experimentally substantiated during this epidemiological observation.

Ganglionic circulation and its effects on neurons controlling cardiovascular functions in Aplysia californica.

The abdominal ganglion of the mollusk Aplysia californica receives most of its blood supply through a small caudal artery that branches off the anterior aorta near its junction with the heart. Injection of an ink/gelatin mixture into the caudal artery revealed a consistent pattern of arterial branching within the ganglion and a general proximity of larger vessels to identified neurons controlling circulation in this animal. This morphological arrangement was particularly evident for the heart excitor interneuron, cell L10, which lies next to the caudal artery near its entry into the ganglion. In electrophysiological experiments, L10 was excited when blood flow or oxygen tension within the ganglion was reduced. This effect was expressed as a gradual increase in impulse frequency of L10 and conversion from tonic to bursting mode of spike discharge. L10 follower cells in the RB and LD neuron clusters were affected synaptically by the changes in L10 activity, while other follower cells (L3 and RD neurons) responded independently of L10's synaptic influence. The neurosecretory white cells (R3 to R14) that innervate the major arteries and pericardial tissues were also excited when ganglionic circulation was interrupted. In innervated preparations of the heart and respiratory organs, decreased circulation through the abdominal ganglion stimulated a transient increase in the rate and amplitude of respiratory (gill) pumping and pericardial contractions and caused a sustained increase in activity of the heart. Both responses increase cardiac output and both appear to involve a direct influence of ganglionic circulation on interneurons controlling the gill and heart. These results indicate that the cell-specific patterns of excitation and inhibition caused by fluctuations in ganglionic circulation may be important factors for maintaining circulatory homeostasis in this animal.
