Depressive equivalents in adults.
Depression is frequently unrecognized because many of its manifestations do not fit the classic picture of depressive syndrome. Common atypical presentations of depressive syndrome include: variations of typical depressive symptoms; depression without sadness; depression without an obvious source; depression and somatic symptoms; depression and chronic pain; depression and intensification of previous personality styles, and depression manifesting as substance abuse or other psychosocial disorders.
