This case involves an orphan female neonate-abandoned in a dustbin in Poona, India-who was infected by the larval forms of the blowfly. The blowfly causing this infestation belonged to the family Calliphoridae and genus Calliphora. The fly of this genus is of importance in Indian veterinary science and is found abundantly around decaying matter in Poona. The larvae occurring in carrion, flesh, etc, usually infest open wounds of animals and rarely infest humans.
One hundred and eighty-one patients with renal calculi were treated by percutaneous nephrolithotomy in 2 1/2 years. In 171 cases the calculi were removed successfully and the complication rate was low. Intrarenal manipulation and irrigation should be done for only a limited period of time. This procedure can be carried out safely, in many centres, with adequate experience and minimal facilities.
A new endoscopic dilator that can be used either with a foroblique or end vision telescope is described. The design of the dilator and its use are demonstrated with diagrams and endoscopic photographs. The safety and the ease of operation are explained.
Endoscopic removal of bladder stones of all sizes in adults has been discussed and illustrated by 100 cases. 3 different techniques were used to remove the stones viz. (1) extraction by Dormia basket, (2) cystoscopic lithotrity and (3) electronic lithotripsy by Russian-made "URAT 1". Safety and economic advantages to the patients have been discussed.
