[Perineal canal].

The malformation, perineal canal, is a rare condition accounting for the 4% of all anorectal malformations. We report a 15 months old female that presented passage of feces per vagina during a diarrheal disease. Former physical exam did not show any fistulous opening, another exam under sedation and radiological study with barium leaded to the diagnose of perineal canal. The fistula was excised without preceding colostomy. After surgery the patient did well without complications. Several diagnostic techniques and surgical approaches are analyzed. The authors believe that the surgical procedure used in this patient have had good outcome and the advantage of no needing of preceding colostomy.

[Retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma in childhood].

UNLABELLED: Lymphangiomas are very common neoplasms in infancy. However, a retroperitoneal location is seldom observed. We present the case of a male with a history of chronic recurrent pain over a period of several years. An X-ray showed a calcic density in the left upper abdominal quadrant; the histological study revealed it to be a mixoid cystic lymphangioma. Clinical presentation varies greatly from an asymptomatic mass to serious complications. In order to correctly diagnose of these neoplasms it is essential to carry on ultra sound and CT examination although a simple abdominal X-ray may show calcifications as the one presented here. Treatment is always surgical and a complete extirpation should be performed, unless vital structures were are involved. Treatment with laser, fibrin and sclerotherapy have also been used. CONCLUSION: In spite of being benign neoplasms we believe they should be removed to confirm diagnosis and avoid possible complications.

[Gastric bezoar].

Bezoar consist of the accumulation of different substances in the digestive tract. We present the clinical case of a girl with gastric trichobezoar discovered in a postoperatory follow-up to an appendicectomy. Ultra-sound images and oesophagus-gastric transit are fundamental points in the diagnosis. Endoscopy was useful in confirming the diagnosis and in ruling out associated ulcus, frequent in these patients. Surgical treatment is the choice in big bezoar but laser, prokinetics and enzymatic dissolutions have also been used. Theses patients should undergo psychological control.

[Hemangioma of the glans penis].

The haemangiomas are benign vascular tumors of frequent apparition in infant, but not very much described in penis glans in the literature. We present a case with location in penis glans, in a short age male, that it was treated through conventional surgery with good results. We accomplish a review of this pathology and we make reference to the different ways of treatment today.

[Abdomino-scrotal hydrocele, an unusual disease, review of the literature, and report of a new case].

Abdominal-scrotal hydrocele is an uncommon lesion, most specially during childhood. It is an entity, though, that should be included in the differential diagnosis of abdominal masses in children, and also considered as a likely cause of ureterohydronephrosis. Diagnosis is arrived at through ultrasound, CAT and occasional excretory urography. Radical surgical excision using inguinal access is the recommended approach, but sometimes the inguinoabdominal or pure abdominal approaches can be performed. Following surgical ablation the cure is complete, and includes remission of the ureterohydronephrosis when present. This paper reviews the literature, presents one case and discusses both the diagnostic possibilities and therapeutic alternatives.

[Immunologic response to testicular torsion. Experimental study on rats].

Men with a background of unilateral torsion of testis (t.t.) show a greater percentage of infertility and changes in the spermiogram. Currently, the cause of contralateral testicle affectation remains unknown. With the aim of verify whether these changes are secondary to an immunological mechanism, the authors conducted experimental work in 3 groups of male rats, inducing a right t.t. over 24 hours, followed by detorsion and preservation of contorted testicle. Immunological response is determined through direct and indirect immunofluorescence reactions, including a brief description of the technique used. Positive reactions were obtained in both the spermatozoa's head and flagellum, more frequently in animals killed at 30 days and gradually decreasing in those killed at 60 and 90 days. The authors compare their results to other experimental works, and recommend to perform orchiectomy because of the damaging effect of the contorted testicle over the contralateral one.

[Basal study of exocrine testicular function in rats].

There is currently no existing methodology for evaluating normal exocrine function in the healthy rat. Consequently, most of the experimental studies that have been conducted are incomplete. For this reason, we developed an experimental model to investigate the testicular exocrine function using spermatozoa obtained from the tail of the epididymis of male rats of different ages. The methodology is described and the results obtained relative to sperm count, survival time, percent mobile/immobile spermatozoa and presence of abnormal forms are presented and compared with the data from experimental studies using electroejaculation techniques. Similarly, the advantages and disadvantages of the method are discussed. In our view, the methodology described herein can also be utilized in other laboratory animals.
