The need for reliable home care industry data is increasing every year because of managed care organizations' focus on outcomes. A 1987 study (published in February 1988 CARING and recently updated with 1996 data) examines the important area of home care nurses' productivity.
For a number of reasons, specialty physicians are hesitant to make referrals to home care. One rural-area provider found that the use of research is an effective strategy for obtaining referrals from specialty physicians.
A recent study of home care nurses and their patients showed that perceptions of nurse caring behaviors often vary among the two groups. Understanding these differences can help agencies allocate resources and nurses offer more appropriate care.
