[Ultrastructural changes in the resorptive epithelial cells of the small intestine in rats during increased motor activity and immobilization].

Investigated were the structural changes in the epithelial resorptive cells of the duodenum and the jejunum of rats in the conditions of continuous and varying locomotor activity--intense locomotion, control, and immobilization. It was established that the microvilli in the immobilized animals were of a lower size, were irregularly distributed and lower in number. The inward bending of the lateral cell boundary was more slightly manifested. Disaggregations of the polysomes were also expressed. In rats loaded with higher locomotion activity there was more frequently a close association of the mitochondria with the granular endoplasmatic reticulum and the nucleus. The changes observed spoke of lowering of the active cell surface and lowering of the biosynthesis rate in the epithelial resorptive cells at immobilization and enhanced metabolic activity in locomotor loading.

Influence of increased motor activity on learning and memory in albino rats.

The experiment has been carried out with 20 male Wistar rats with initial age 30 +/- 5 days, equally divided in two groups: controls and motor-loaded rats. The experimental animals ran five days a week on a treadmill covering 60,540 m for 133 training sessions. Afterwards using a multi-chamber semi-automated labyrinth it was found that systematic and dosed motor loading leads to significant improvement of both learning and retention. The results obtained are examined as a consequence of the biochemical and morphofunctional changes developing in the central nervous system under the effect of prolonged motor activity.

[Ultrastructural changes in the red bone marrow in hyper- and hypokinesia].

Changes were looked for in the bone marrow of rats, put for a long period of ontogenesis under different degrees of muscular activity. The experiment was carried out on three groups of animals of the same age--those for the purpose of control, those loaded with movements, and those immobilized. The ultrastructural picture of the bone marrow with the rats loaded with movements showed an active hematopoiesis which was especially pronounced in the erythrocyte row. We found also an increased activity all over the cellular surface, pinocyte invaginations and vesicles, which were a sign of an intense exchange between the cells and the environment. A lower erythropoietic activity was found in the marrow of the immobilized animals. In this group no erythroblastic isles were found, which is typical of normal erythropoesis. Some young cells showed reduced small organs, whereas others were characterized by a more pronounced vacuolation of the cytoplasm.

[Morphometric studies of the changes in reproductive activity of the rat ovaries in regimens of immobilization and motor activity].

White female rats from the Wistar strain were divided into three groups: the first--subjected to heavy motion exercises, the second--used as control, and the third--immobilized. Motion stress was accomplished by use of a tretbahn, while immobilization was effected by the use of a method for physiological immobilization invented by the authors. A considerable reduction in corpus luteum number (number of ovulations) was observed in the immobilized animals. In most cases cystic degeneration, ovarian hypoplasia, obliteration and obturation as well as salpingitis were observed in these animals also. In pregnant immobilized rats only a small number of embryos was found, high percent of embryo mortality, fetal growth retardation and a considerable thickening and folding of the endometrium with numerous blood cells mainly histocytes and lymphocytes under the epithelium. No visible deviations from the normal condition and function of the gonads were observed in the control animals while in those under motion stress data indicating a certain improvement in the reproductive activity were obtained.
