[The correction of the functional activity of alveolar macrophages in inducing a primary immune response in influenza].

The functional activity of alveolar macrophages obtained from mice, both healthy and infected with influenza virus A/Aichi 2/68 (H3N2), as manifested by their capacity to initiate the development of primary immune response to sheep red blood cells and Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide after the transfer of these macrophages to intact syngeneic recipients was studied. The capacity of alveolar macrophages to perform antigen-presenting functions in the induction of humoral immune response was shown, and at the same time the development of experimental influenza infection was found to essentially decrease these properties. The injection of the immunomodulating agent diuciphon into experimental mice somewhat enhanced the immune response after the syngeneic transfer of alveolar macrophages from infected mice to intact recipients.

[Use of the liposomal forms of a terrilytin preparation for the lysis of experimental thrombi].

Thrombolytic activity of liposomal terrilytin forms has been experimentally studied. Liposomal terrilytin form (50-280 PU/kg) was administered to rabbits 24 hours after the experimental induction of femoral thrombi. In 43.75% of cases complete lysis of the thrombi was noted, in 37.5% of cases different stages of the lysis of wall thrombi were observed and in 18.75% of cases the thrombi remained. In the control experiments the thrombi remained in 75% of cases, while in 25% of cases spontaneous lysis of the thrombi occurred. Statistically significant hemostasis changes gave evidence of the decrease in the blood clotting activity after oral administration of a liposomal terrilytin form. It has become possible to achieve thrombolytic effect using lower doses of orally administered liposomal terrilytin form, which is both therapeutically and economically important.

[Peptidoglycan isolated from Lactobacillus bulgaricus: its effect, mediated by the complement system, on pre-T-cell maturation].

Peptidoglycan from Lactobacillus bulgaricus converts mouse pre-T-cells into theta-positive cells and activates the complement. It has been observed that the effect depends on serum peptidoglycan concentration and the time of the interaction of the activated complement with mouse pre-T-cells. The action of peptidoglycan was replaced by C3a complement component.

[Effect of SOS repair in enterobacteria on their interaction with the complement system].

The interaction of E. coli (serovar 0124) and its rec A-mutants with serum complement resulting in the alternative pathway activation was studied. Bacteria VT1240 (original smooth strain), VT1241 (rough mutant) and VT 2240 (recA56 mutant) were shown to be complement-sensitive when treated with 1.5 X 10(8)--1.9 X 10(8) cells per ml of normal human serum, while the cells with SOS-activated system (recA441 mutant, strain VT3251) retained their viability. An alternative pathway of complement activation was minimal with E. coli VT1241, while VT3251 demonstrated intermediate activity. To decrease the level of complement components (AH50) and factor B (BH50) by 50%, 3.5 X 10(6)--4.5 X 10(6) cells of VT1240 and VT2240 strains were required. R-mutants and recA441 mutants caused a 50% reduction in AH50, when used in the amount of 6.4 X 10(7) and 2.6 X 10(7), respectively, the same degree of BH50 decrease was achieved with the amounts used equal to 1.1 X 10(8) and 4.3 X 10(6), respectively. C3 conversions caused by 4 X 10(8) cells in I ml of the normal human serum in the four strains tested accounted for 5-15%.

[Lipid peroxides and thrombosis].

In incubation of rabbit platelets with ADF, adrenalin, serotonin and thrombin the level of hydroxyperoxides serotonin and thrombin the level of hydroxyperoxides serotonin and thrombin the level of hydroxyperoxides they show, determined with respect to malonic dialdehyde, rises simultaneously with the enhancement of aggregation activity. Still higher level of malonic dialdehyde can be found in platelets of the animals with thrombosis of pulmonary vessels. The studies performed demonstrate that accumulation of malonic dialdehyde in platelets involves an initial stage of the thromboti process development. This finding can be used in the diagnosis of early stages of intravascular thrombogenesis.

[Noradrenaline and adrenaline concentration in the myocardium of persons who have died suddenly or from injuries].

To investigate mechanisms of sudden death the authors determined the content of noradrenaline and adrenaline in the myocardium of different heart sections in deceased persons by the fluorimetric method; similar studies of the myocardium of persons who died of trauma were conducted. Heterotopia in the noradrenaline content between the cardiac chambers proved to be considerably more pronounced in sudden death than in fatal trauma. The differences in the adrenaline and noradrenaline content in the heart chambers of persons who died of trauma and suddenly indicated the death mechanisms to be different in these cases.

[Thrombolytic activity of terrilytin and its effect on the coagulating system of the blood].

The preliminary incubation of fibrinogen with terrilytin in vitro delayed the formation of the clot and accelerated the subsequent lysis. Terrylitin (in vitro) prolonged the recalcification time, lowered the thromboplastic activity and that of fibrinase, and also enhanced the fibrinolytic activity of the blood plasma. In experiments on dogs roentgenovasography revealed a considerable thrombolytic activity of terrilytin following its intravenous infusion to the animals with experimental thrombosis of the femoral veins.

[Determination of choleragen activity in tadpoles].

A method of titration of the V. cholerae toxin obtained from the broth culture filtrates is presented. In difference from the earlier methods, the larvae of Rana temporaria were used as a test object. The tadpoles were placed in the vessels with water containing graded concentrations of the toxin. The titer of the toxin activity was evaluated by the percentage of dead tadpoles. The concentration causing the death of 50 per cent of the tadpoles in the course of the 24 hours was taken as a unit of toxin activity. The method is simple, easily reproducible and economical.

[Choleragenic intoxication in hydrobionts].

Experiments were conducted on Rana temporaria in which cholerigenic intoxication was induced. Administration of high doses of choleragen caused in the epithelial cells of the small intestine of frogs structural-functional changes analogous to those observed in suckling rabbits used as a classic model for studying the mechanisms of cholerigenic intoxication.
