[Neuroactive complexed zinc compounds from bovine brain].

The fraction obtained from acidic extract of bovine brain homogenate after several steps of chromatographic purification provokes spontaneous aggressive encounters in rats upon intracerebroventricular injection. The simultaneous long-term raising of electric shock-induced aggression with the suppressing of muricidal and intraspecies aggressive behaviour has been observed. Intravenous and intraperitoneal injections of this fraction induce no behavioural changes in rats. It has been determined that the fraction consists of complex compounds of zinc with various aliphatic amines. A similar or higher behavioural activity has been discovered in series of synthetic complexes of zinc with different ligands, that are suggested for use in modelling any nervous and psychiatric disorders connected with an increased aggression level.

[Biospecific preparation and some properties of molecular factors, interacting with brain-specific proteins S100].

The biospecific preparation and a preliminary analysis of physico-chemical properties of water-soluble proteins from bovine brain and liver and brain oligopeptides specifically adsorbed on a column with immobilized brain-specific proteins of the major fraction S100 were carried out. Using thin-layer electrophoresis on cellulose and tachyphoresis, it was found that four oligopeptide cations and three anionic oligopeptides interact with S100. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis revealed at least six brain proteins and 11 liver proteins, which interact with S100. An essential role in interaction of protein ligands from the bran (but not from liver) with immobilized S100 proteins belongs to Ca2+. The use of natural endogenous ligands for the study of the biological role of brain-specific proteins S100 is discussed.

[Assessment of the severity of patient status in sepsis and septic shock].

A score for quantitative evaluation of the severity of clinical status has been created for a more objective assessment of the clinical status of patients with sepsis and septic shock. The system includes five sections: physiological parameters, level of respiratory support, age, localization of the focus, concomitant diseases. The final score represents a sum of scores for the above sections. ROC analysis demonstrated a higher prognostic value of the proposed score in comparison with the APACHE-II for patients with grave sepsis.
