[Experience in sanitary and hygienic support of construction and upkeep of railroads in Northern and Siberian regions].

The article stresses that railway hygiene has accumulated vast experience in evaluation of working environment of railway construction workers in severe climate conditions, thorough hygienic characteristics cover the main construction occupations and the exploitation staffers. The research helped to elaborate variety of hygienic regulations on occupational hygiene and work schedules for railway construction workers, on hygienic basis of the workers' everyday life in severe climate conditions.

[Scientific bases of improving the regulations of hazardous cargo transportation].

The authors report their experience on improvement of Rules for Transportation of Dangerous Load and related legal documents and recommendations. The materials necessitate systematic research in urgent medical care, transport hygiene, ecology and all fields forming basic science for improvement of Rules for Transportation of Dangerous Load. The article considers scientific and informational value of emergency cards escorting dangerous load (exemplified by high concentrations of hexamethylene diamine).

[Prevalence and etiology of occupational dermatoses in workers of railway transport in 1958-1992].

Dermatoses are among the most prevalent occupational diseases on the railway transport; in 1961-1975 their share in total morbidity was 40%. The structure of diseases was as follows (%): contact dermatosis 87.4, eczema 6.8, allergic drug-induced dermatitis 1.4, folliculitis, toxicoderma, chemical burns, radial dermatitis and other kinds of dermatosis 0.84. The main causes of diseases were the use of many chemicals in transport processes and of Diesel engines on trains.

[Comprehensive sanitary characteristics of work conditions].

Article deals with problems of hygienic evaluation of work conditions as a part of complex hygienic characteristics concerning the intensity and difficulty of work. The system of evaluation was suggested by I.S.Kandror in 60-s and developed by different authors. Studied variant of complex hygienic characteristics contains some new elements and requires further discussion.

[Scientific and technical progress and railroad hygiene].

Article deals with the experience in using of real way hygiene for improvement of the work conditions for railway workers. Positive influence of hygiene on the scientific and technologic progress in the studied branch of industry was approved. New scientific and industrial structures in hygiene and health care of the railway workers may be created during the construction of the new economic relationship.

[Occupational hygiene of railway transport workers as a specific branch of occupational medicine].

Occupational hygiene of the railway transport is a well defined sphere of knowledge. It is closely connected with the general occupational medicine and yet occupies a significant place in the railway medicine. Occupational medicine of the railway transport is based on results of sciences connected with each other and at the same time it serves for the favourable research is included sciences, such as occupational physiology and hygiene pathology, sanitary technics, chemistry, acoustics et al.

[Medical information system regarding the control of the results of the railroad accidents involving hazardous substances].

Medical and informational supply of the system liquidating the consequences of accidents concerning the dangerous railway goods was analysed. Emergency cards of dangerous railway goods were described as a new type of medical and technical information. 130 of such cards concerning 567 dangerous railway goods were published in 1984, additional prophylactic sections of emergency cards for 400 substances (goods) were published in 1991. Materials for 1,000 substances are prepared for publishing. Automatic system for information search was proved to have good prospects for the further development and putting into practice on railways.

[Hygienic and physiological aspects of evaluation of new types of protective clothing for railroad workers].

In the Soviet rail-road transport system, timely provision of individual protective devices was authorized by a special instruction of the Rail-Roads Transport Ministry. New materials and overalls are being introduced to adapt the individual safety measures to new labour conditions and the new chemical substances used in the rail-road transport system. Hygienic, physiological and laboratory techniques are widely used to assess the properties of new devices. The evaluating techniques and approaches used and improved in the transport industry can be applied to in other branches.

[The classification of industrial chemical allergens].

The classification of industrial chemical allergenic compounds has been developed. The criterion of noxious effect of allergenic chemicals is described not only by experimentally valid allergenic signs of the compound but also by clinical manifestations of allergosis in workers and sanitary diagnostic reliability of occupational allergic diseases. Numerous allergens are classified according to the chemical systematization of compounds. The classification contains 2 classes: the 1st class involves inorganic and elementoorganic compounds, the 2nd one--organic compounds. The first class has 7 subclasses, each of them covers compounds of one of the series of the 2nd-6th periods of Mendeleeff's periodic table. The second class has 3 subclasses, combining the compound derivatives of acyclic (2.1), aromatic and alicyclic (2.2), and heterocyclic hydrocarbons (2.3).
