The modified glyoxylic acid histofluorescent method (Torre and Surgeon) and Karnovsky-Roots method for acetylcholinesterase activity was applied to fresh animal and human material. Human material was obtained during ENT surgery and consisted of nasal, laryngeal and hypopharyngeal mucosa. Not only on animal, but also on human material adrenergic axons and varicosities were demonstrated around vessels in nasal mucosa, diffusely in nasal, laryngeal and hypopharyngeal mucosa and just below and intraepithelially in laryngeal mucosa. Abundant cholinergic innervation was found around vessels and glands in nasal, laryngeal and hypopharyngeal mucosa, as well as diffusely scattered in the tissue of their mucosa.
Gardner's syndrome, a hereditary affection of the bastoderm layers, is rarely recognized though it is seen in 8-16% of cases of colorectal polyposis. Seven cases (4 female and 3 male) of Gardner's syndrome in 3 families are presented. Six of the patients belonged to 2 families, several members of which suffered from familial polyposis; the seventh case was an isolated case of Gardner's syndrome without a family history of polyposis. Because of the high risk of malignancy in the presence of polyps, the treatment of Gardner's syndrome is identical to that of familial polyposis. Four patients underwent total colectomy and 2 simple polypectomy. One refused all treatment or monitoring. From these patients, one of the polyps excised from the rectum was found to be undergoing malignant transformation. The extracolic symptoms of this condition precede polyposis within the gut; they attract attention and thus permit early diagnosis.

Gardner's syndrome, an hereditary affection of the different blastoderm layers, is rarely recognised, even though it is seen in 8-16% of cases of colorectal polyposis. The authors present 7 cases of Gardner's syndrome within 3 families: 4 female and 3 male. Six of the patients belonged to 2 families, of which several members suffered from familial polyposis; the seventh case was an isolated case of Gardner's syndrome, without a family history of polyposis. Because of the high risk of malignancy in the presence of polyps, the treatment of Gardner's syndrome is identical to that of familial polyposis, 4 patients underwent total colectomy, 2 a simple polypectomy and 1 refused all treatment or monitoring. From these patients, one of the polyps excised at the level of the rectum was found to be undergoing malignant transformation. The extra-colic manifestations of this condition precede the polyposis within the gut; they attract attention and thus permit an early diagnosis.
Severe laryngeal stenosis in children can be corrected successfully with surgery. Re-canalization of the larynx allows for nasal respiration, reduces the danger of respiratory infections, contributes to improved tissue oxygenation, and stimulates the child's psychosomatic development. Contrary to prior otolarngeal approaches to laryngeal stenosis in children, it has been shown that surgery does not hinder the growth of the larynx, but rather stimulates the normalization of laryngeal function; and this function itself stimulates laryngeal skeleton. It is important that surgery be performed as soon as possible in order to avoid an erroneous functional mechanism which is difficult to correct later. This can also lead to chronic irreversible atrophic and fibrotic processes in the laryngeal mucosa.

The method of covering a broad endolaryngeal defect following extensive partial surgery of the larynx by means of the fascia of the sternohyoid muscle is presented. Of 71 cases of vertical and combined vertical and horizontal partial laryngectomy recurrence was seen in 15 cases, nine of them died. The fascia showed resistance to all postoperative complications and there was not a single case of rejection. In only 4 cases it was not possible to carry out decannulation because of postirradiation complications in the form of oedema, stenosis or fixation of the cricoarythenoid joint.
The mechanical irritation alone or in combination with an inflammatory component and fragility of blood vessels plays the decisive role in the development of some vocal cord morphological changes. The duration of the mechanical irritation modifies the clinical picture. The plase of the strongest physiological mechanical irritation is the place of localization of the vocal cord morphological changes. The histological picture of different pathomorphological vocal cord changes is almost identical, this being the consequence of the specific structure of Reinke's subepithelial space. The treatment of all these morphological entities is surgical by means of microlaryngoscopy, except in cases of recent nodules which respond to conservative phoniatric therapy in the majority of cases.
The preliminary results of investigating the lateral nasal wall are presented. In this study only three strips of mucosa are analysed from histological point of view using serial sections. One strip corresponded to the plane of lateral osteotomy, the second crossed the middle of turbinates and the third corresponded to the vestibular area. The accurate number and distribution of vascular and glandular elements were determined by help of Visopan and micro-photographs.
