[Analysis of the linear migration of the radionuclide along meridians in perfused extremities of monkey].

On the basis of researches in human body, further experiment in monkeys was conducted and the result has demonstrated that: 1. There was a close and complicated relation between the migration of 99mTc injected into acupoints and the blood circulation. 2. The location of the migration was mainly in the subcutaneous lay. 3. There were no direct relationship between the migration and periphery nerve system.

Microcapsules through polymer complexation. I: Complex coacervation of polymers containing a high charge density.

Acidic and basic methacrylate co- and ter-polymers based on (respectively) methacrylic acid (MAA) and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) were prepared by solution free radical polymerization and structurally characterized by NMR spectroscopy and dilute solution viscometry. Relationships between pKa/pKb/pH, solubility and extent of ionization were determined by acid/base titration. Yields and equilibrium water contents of complex coacervates from these polymers were measured, and microcapsule forming systems based on this effect were developed as potential prostheses for organ transplantation. Short term cell viability in these capsules was demonstrated using erythrocytes as a model cell line.

Photodynamic therapy for 50 patients with skin cancers or precancerous lesions.

Hematoporphyrin photodynamic therapy (HpD-PDT) was used to treat 50 patients (51 lesions) with skin cancers or precancerous lesions. The preliminary results were satisfactory, with 44 cases (45 lesions) obtaining excellent results, 4 cases good, 1 case fair, and 1 case poor. The effective rate was 98%, the significant remission rate 96%, and the complete remission rate 88.2%. Exposure to sunlight should be avoided after HpD injection, since it produces photosensitivity. A follow-up for 1 to 3 years confirmed that HpD-PDT is a good new adjuvant therapy for selected cases. It brings a hopeful future to the treatment of skin cancers.

[The suitable age for first-birth from the view of infant's health].

During March to June 1985, a health survey was carried out in a series of 963 infants of first-birth born in six hospitals in Changsha city. The health status of the infants was estimated by using the method of comprehensive score evaluation. The relationship between score and the mother's age was analysed. The results showed that the geometric mean of the score of the infants whose mother was 24-29 years old was lower than the infants whose mother was 19-23 years old or 30-38 years old. It indicated that the suitable age for first-birth was from 24 to 29 years old.

[Comparison of Chinese traditional therapy combined with Western medicine and Western medicine alone in the treatment of uveitis].

Seventy nine eyes of 46 patients with uveitis were treated with two therapeutic methods. One was mainly Chinese traditional dialectic therapy combined with western medicine. The other was western medica treatment using mainly corticosteroid. The group treated with combined methods (37 eyes of 22 cases) showed an effective rate of 91.8%. The group treated only with western medicine (42 eyes of 24 cases) showed a 66.6% < effective rate. In a follow-up period of six months to one year. The disease relapsed in 13 eyes out of the 33 eyes in the combined method group with recurrent rate of 39.4%. The recurrent rate of the western medical treatment was 86.4% (19 eyes out of the 22 eyes). It shows the Chinese traditional dialectic therapy combined with eastern medicine is better than the solely western medical treatment.

Adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cAMP)-binding proteins and cAMP-dependent protein kinases in bovine adrenal cortical cell plasma membrane.

A cAMP-binding protein and cAMP-dependent protein kinase have been identified and partially characterized in bovine adrenocortical plasma membranes. [3H]cAMP binding to the plasma membrane preparation demonstrates both high (Ka = 4.2 X 10(9) M-1) and low (Ka = 1.3 X 10(8) M-1) affinity binding sites. cAMP-dependent protein kinase was demonstrated using both bovine histone and endogenous substrates. The detergent-dependent solubilization characteristics of this cAMP-dependent protein kinase indicate that it is an integral membrane protein.

A glimpse of community-based rehabilitation in China.

As in other developing countries, community-based rehabilitation (CBR) in China is very important. However, because of differences in the social system, economy, and cultural level, it is impossible to implement a uniform model of CBR. This paper introduces material to show how CBR in China tends to be spontaneous. Experience of CBR stations in Shenyang has initiated a new approach to CBR within the cultural characteristics of China.
