Long-term evaluation after chincap treatment.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the skeletal changes occurring during and after chincap therapy. The subjects of this study, with a mean age of 9 years 3 months, consisted of 27 patients; all of whom possessed an anterior crossbite. Of these patients, 15 had skeletal Class III and the remaining 12 had skeletal Class I malocclusions with anterior crossbites. The applied total force with the chincap was 600 grams and the mean treatment period was 12 months. The changes during and after treatment were analysed by using linear and angular cephalometric measurements. The result obtained in this investigation was that in skeletal Class I and Class III cases, successfully treated by a chincap appliance, where the necessary overjet and overbite relationship was obtained, the abnormality tended to return to the original position during the period following chincap removal.

[The effect of protrusive splint therapy on the dento-facial skeletal pattern].

Twenty-five adult patients with temporomandibular joint anterior disc displacement with reduction of initial and intermediate phase were applied mandibular anterior repositioning splint therapy and changes in dento-facial skeletal pattern and facial profile were evaluated. By the use of splint, the differences in ANB, SNA angle; SE, Mo-MS, Ms-S dimensions; overjet, overbite and anterior facial height were found statistically significant. The changes occurred in profile and GoGn-SN angle did not show significance.

[Apexification during active orthodontic treatment].

An apexification procedure is performed on a maxillary left central incisor tooth of a fourteen years old girl who has chronic apical periodontitis and undergoing active orthodontic treatment. After a one-year clinical and radiological follow-up, formation of apical closure is observed. As a result, apexification can be suggested as a successful treatment procedure in such cases.

[Orthodontic treatment of a dilacerated maxillary central incisor].

A case is presented in which orthodontic treatment was applied to correct the axial inclination of a dilacerated maxillary central incisor. Also, it is considered that after a 24 month clinical and post-operative radiographic follow-up of the case the vitality of the tooth is maintained and the root resorption avoided.

Computed tomography and angiographic findings of childhood moyamoya disease.

Moyamoya disease is a rare entity consisting of bilateral stenosis or occlusion of internal carotid arteries with abnormal collateral vessels at the base of the brain. We present five Turkish children with this disease, which is more common in Japan. Focal neurologic deficits and/or epilepsy were the common presenting symptoms in two girls and three boys between the ages of 1.5 and 11 years. Multiple cerebral infarcts were diagnosed in all of the cases by Computed Tomography (CT). Abnormal net-like vessels at the base of the brain were detected in three patients. Cerebral angiography, which is necessary to confirm the diagnosis, showed moyamoya vessels and bilateral stenosis or occlusion of the internal carotid arteries in all cases. Although the angiographic staging was advanced in three patients, neither clinical status nor parenchymal abnormalities detected with CT were different from the other two cases.
