Class II correction in a severe hyperdivergent growth pattern, bilateral open bite and oral compromise.

Severe vertical growth pattern and open bites are frequent problems the orthodontist must resolve but require a proper diagnosis, treatment plan, timing, and mechanotherapy to be properly treated. A case report with these problems is presented.

Utilizing a directional force system in class II mechanics.

The concepts of esthetics, function, and health must be supported by sound diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment timing, and mechanotherapy for each orthodontic patient. The treatment of a patient with a Class II, Division 1-type malocclusion is shown in this case report. The treatment sequence of complete Class II mechanotherapy and a directional force system are emphasized.
