A practice survey for the year 2000 was conducted through the National Regional Advisory Council. Each respondent was asked to supply detailed information on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the first 20 consecutive patients seen in that year with follow-up for 1 year or until an ongoing pregnancy was reached. The results show interesting patterns of geographic differences in treatment of the infertile couple. In general, American Society for Reproductive Medicine guidelines for practice were followed.
PURPOSE: This study was designed to compare levels of satisfaction for ovum donors and gestational carriers/surrogates (GCS), investigate attitudes, and explore beliefs about the role genetics, gestation, and environment play in various characteristics. DESIGN: An east coast IVF center and two California-based agencies recruited donor and GCS candidates. METHODS: Participants received mailed questionnaires that included sections on demographics, attitudes, and beliefs. RESULTS: Both groups were highly satisfied with their participation. Donors were not willing to be GCS, and GCS were not willing to be donors. GCS thought about and disclosed their participation, felt children should be told about GCS, and desired future contact with the child(ren) more than did donors (p < 0.002). Donors did not indicate a preference about disclosure. Contact with recipients did not correlate with satisfaction. CONCLUSION: Women who chose to donate eggs or to be GCS hold distinct and different beliefs about the role of gestation and genetics.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of recurrent aggressive angiomyxoma managed by a team composed of a radiologist, general surgeon, and reproductive endocrinologist, with a literature review which focuses on histologic differences between various types of myxomas. STUDY DESIGN: Case report and literature review. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The proband patient has an apparent cure, but this particular type of myxoma shows a proclivity for recurrence, sometimes years after resection. Therefore, long-term follow-up with MRI or CT scans is necessary. Preoperative management with vessel embolization and creation of gonadal suppression facilitates the surgical approach, which usually can be via a perineal, extraperitoneal route.
