[Anatomic item of the human ethmoid bone -- bulla ethmoidalis uncinata].

A discovery was made in the N.N. Burdenko Voronezh State Medical Academy patented in 2002 -- earlier unknown anatomic item of human ethmoid bone -- bulla ethmoidalis uncinata. It is a pneumatized conjunction of the large ethmoid vesicle and the uncinate process located on the medial plate of ethmoid labyrinth constituting the upper part of the lateral nasal wall in the region of the middle nasal passage. The discovery concerns the field of medicine, i.e. human topographic anatomy, surgery, otorhinolaryngology.

[Effectiveness of the treatment of frontal sinus inflammation and its prevention].

The analysis of intraoperative data obtained at correction of ethmoid bone structure in 130 patients with frontal sinusitis including the removed tissue histology shows that the severity of ostiomeatal complex deformation correlates with actual advance of the destructive alterations in the ethmoid labyrinth by the frontal sinus. Removal of necrobiotic tissues adjacent to the frontal sinus is pathogenetically valid and the most effective treatment of frontal sinusitis which has reduced the number of recurrences to 3.5%.

[Retrospective analysis of diagnostic and therapeutic results in patients with inflammatory diseases of the frontal sinus].

The diagnosis, clinical course and therapy of inflammatory diseases of frontal sinuses of 213 patients, aged 14 to 80 years, were investigated. In 104 patients the process was acute and in 109 patients it was chronic. 63% of patients suffered from purulent, 15% of them--from catarrhal, and 21.6% of them--from purulent-polypous frontal sinusitis 89.2% of patients showed unilateral and 10.8% of them bilateral lesions; 47.4% of patients displayed combined lesions of paranasal sinuses. For diagnostic and therapeutic purposesal 23.5% of patients were exposed to sinusal catheterization and irrigation according to the method of E.A. Landsberg; 7.5% of patients--to trepanopuncture, and 50.7% of patients--to frontotomy. 48.1% of operated patients developed relapses. After conservative treatment, which included catheterization and irrigation of frontal sinuses, relapses were seen only in 2.1% of patients. Our analysis demonstrated advantages of endonasal catherization of frontal sinuses in the diagnosis and therapy of frontal sinusitis and gave evidence that the manipulation was possible and safe in essentially all the patients treated.

[Topographic-anatomic bases of puncture biopsy of neoformations of deeply located parts of the parotid salivary gland].

In order to ensure an adequate approach to the pharyngeal process of the parotid gland, we investigated interactions between anatomical structures of the face, jaws and neck, on the one hand, and deeply located compartments of the parotid salivary gland, on the other. We tested variants of intra- and extra-oral approach to puncture biopsy of the above compartments of the parotid salivary gland. We examined clinical and anatomical parallels of otorhinolaryngological symptoms in the case of tumor lesions of the gland.

[Effects of pathology of the gastrointestinal system on the state of the mucous membrane of the larynx and pharynx].

The hypophysis on contribution of gastrointestinal pathology to development of chronic pharyngo-laryngitis (CPL) was investigated in the study of 110 patients with catarrhal, hypertrophic, atrophic and mixed CPL (20, 12.7, 27.3, 40% of patients, respectively). Gastroenterological examination revealed gastritis plus gastroduodenitis, gastroduodenal ulcer, biliary and pancreatic disease, combined gastroduodenal pathology in 21.8, 30.9, 20, 27.3% of patients, respectively. Combined therapy including treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, produced stable remission of pharyngo-laryngitis in 97.3% of the patients treated. Thus, it is evident that a close relationship exists between pharyngolaryngeal and gastrointestinal affections.
