[Physiological evaluation of work done by female hothouse workers].

The authors studied influence of work conditions and temperature mode on functional state of stove female workers. The results include leading factor of work operations, that determinates work hardiness and jeopardy class for work conditions. Physiologic research demonstrated changes in functional state of some body systems, especially cardiovascular and neuromuscular ones.

[Sensitivity of Escherichia coli O157:H7, a pathogen of hemorrhagic colitis, to antibacterial drugs].

Antibioticograms of enterohemorrhagic strains of serogroup O157 Escherichia coli isolated in the Russian Federation and Japan were comparatively studied. Strains with multiple drug resistance were detected. The main biochemical characteristics of the isolates were investigated. Significant differences in susceptibility spectra of the isolates and in their fermentative properties were revealed.

[A new metabolite with fungistatic and bacteriostatic activity, produced by strain L-30 of Flavobacterium sp].

Flavocin, an agent with fungistatic and bacteriostatic activities, was isolated from the culture of Flavobacterium sp. L-30. The data on the physico-chemical and biological properties of flavocin A, the major active component, are presented. The component was identified with metabolites of the genus Flavobacterium and other genera of nonsporulating bacteria. Flavocin was highly efficient in the treatment of various farm crops. The antagonistic effect of flavocin was observed under field conditions in growing sugar beet, barley, spring wheat, potato and grape. Presowing and nonradical exposure to flavocin lowered the affection of the plants with brown patch, scab, soft rot and oidium.

[Contact lenses permeable to gas. Literature review].

Some medical-technical requirements concerning ophthalmic contact lenses were formulated. A whole series of scientific descriptions of contact lenses was analysed. A short characterization of lenses was given on the basis of PMMA (polymethacrylate of methyl), silicon rubber, poly-2-methacrylic cellulose and cellulose acetate-butyrate; the properties of contact lenses made of materials achieved through a modification of the above-mentioned ones as well as made of new materials were also examined. The problems of transmission of gases of contact lenses were described and the calculations necessary for a minimum of the gas transmittance were mentioned, starting from partial oxygen to the eye cornea. Some ways of solving the problems concerning the insertion of therapeutic substances into contact lenses are described together with prevention of the accumulation of lacrimation fluid protein on their surfaces.

[Changes in the end part of the ECG ventricular complex under the effect of digitalis preparations and their combination with metabolic preparations].

Analysis of the dynamics of changes in the end part of the ECG ventricular complex in 311 patients with rheumatic heart disease and stages IIA, IIB, and III circulatory insufficiency after treatment with preparations of digitalis and their combination with biologically active substances (orotic acid, vitamin B12, calcium pantothenate, ATP, methionine, inosi-F) is presented. When digitalis glycosides are used with preparations that have an effect on the nucleic acid synthesis and energy production, the "digitalis--induced" changes in the end part of the ECG ventricular complex are less marked while the clinical effect of treatment is more appreciable
