[The immunological status indices of monkeys inoculated with a meningococcal B vaccine].

The method for the determination of bacterial antibodies to group B meningococci was worked out. The method was used for the determination of antibodies to group B meningococcal vaccine produced in the USSR. The dynamic study of antibodies to protein, polysaccharide and lipopolysaccharide antigens of group B meningococci was made by the method of the enzyme immunoassay (EIA), and the safety of the vaccine was studied by the determination of autoantibodies active against brain tissue antigens. The data thus obtained were indicative of the immunological activity of group B protein-polysaccharide vaccines, manifested by the capacity for stimulating bactericidal antibodies whose level increased 8- to 10-fold after the immunization of monkeys in 2 and 3 injections. Similarity in the dynamics of the formation of bacteriolysins and antibodies to protein antigen, as determined in EIA, was noted. The vaccine was found to stimulate no cytotoxic anticerebral antibodies in the glia migration test, which was indicative of the safety of group B meningococcal vaccine.

[A comparative study of the immunogenicity of 2 group-B meningococcal vaccines in monkeys].

The comparative study of two group B meningococcal vaccines manufactured in the USSR and in Cuba was made. The vaccine manufactured in the USSR contained the noncovalent compound of group B Neisseria meningitidis polysaccharide and outer membrane protein, and the Cuban vaccine contained group B N. meningitidis outer membrane proteins and group C N. meningitidis polysaccharide. The data obtained in this study indicated that both vaccines possessed immunological potency evaluated according to their capacity to stimulate the formation of bactericidal antibodies, whose level was found to increase eightfold after the immunization of monkeys in two injections. Besides, group B meningococcal vaccines did not induce the suppression of nonspecific protective activity characteristics of the body and did not stimulate the formation of autoantibodies to brain and liver tissues, which was indicative of the safety of these vaccines.

Animals

[Comparative iodination of a series of allergens].

The study of 27 allergens, carried out with the use of the standard technique of chloramine iodination by Hunter's method, revealed that the biological properties of the allergens were not essentially related to their capacity for binding 125I, this capacity being, on the whole, low. The blood sera of patients with allergic diseases were found to be no different from the blood sera of healthy persons in their capacity for binding 125I.

Allergens

[Immunohormonal homeostasis in meningococcal meningitis].

The examination of 18 patients with meningococcal infection has revealed the presence of reciprocal relationships between changes in the content of cortisol and triiodothyronine in their blood, especially at the beginning of the disease. The dynamics of changes in the concentration of rosette-forming cells has proved to be similar to that of changes in the concentration of triiodothyronine. A decrease in the level of thyroid hormones in the blood has been observed in experimental infections and oncological processes in mice, rats or guinea pigs, as well as after the injection of adjuvants into these animals. The centroid factor analysis with the use of the criteria of symmetry and asymmetry has revealed 3 main factors in the process under study, interpreted as follows: the homeostasis destabilization factor of infectious nature (F1), the homeostasis maintenance and restoration factor of endogenous nature (F2) and the factor of the integral relationship catabolism/anabolism between energy streams in the body (F3).

[Substrate reaction concentration in chloramine iodination].

The conditions of chloramine iodization of peptides of different nature have been systematically studied. The empirical formula permitting the calculation of the optimal aliquot of polypeptide without additional experiments is proposed; this method ensures the saturation of peptide molecules with iodine approximately to a level of 1 iodine atom per molecule.

Antigens

[Immunologic reactivity in the acute phase of a stroke].

Examinations of the clinical and immunological state of 68 patients with the acute stage of cerebral stroke were carried out, and so were immunomorphological examinations of the spleen and the subclavicular lymph nodes in 36 of them whose disease ended in death. An analysis of the results obtained has shown that the immunological reactivity increases from the very first day of the disease. The authors believe that the early immunological response, especially in cases of brain infarction, is due to development of the cerebral stroke in a sensitized body. A rise of selective antibody titres depending on the character of the cerebrovascular disorder was noted: there were: anti-encephalic antibodies targeted at the malacia focus in cases of brain infarction, and antivascular, and to a lesser extent anti-encephalic antibodies in cases of a hemorrhagic stroke. The informative value of the complement fixation test was found to be greater than that of the hemagglutination inhibition test. High degrees of plasmatization of the splenic tissue and the presence of the anti-encephalic immune complexes in it, mainly in cases of brain infarction, also point to the activity of the immunogenesis in the acute stage of the cerebral stroke.

Acute Disease

[Alkaline phosphatase and ATPase activity in the walls of the cerebral vessels in hypertension and arteriosclerosis with disorders of the cerebral circulation].

In hypertensive disease and atherosclerosis without acute disorders of cerebral circulation it was established that in the cerebral vessel walls there was a high activity of alkaline phosphatase and adenosintriphosphtase. In the symmetrical areas of the subcortical nodes differences in the activity of these enzymes were insignificant and not valid. In vessel walls, located in the peripheral zone of the apoplectic hemorrhage and in the adjacent brain tissue the activity of alkaline phosphatase and adenosintriphosphatase drops. The existence of a high activity of enzymes in the vessel walls on the early stages of hemorrhages gives ground to the authors to claim that in the peripheral zone of an extensive hemorrhage a drop in the enzyme activity appears in the process of a development of a stroke.

Adenosine Triphosphatases

[Hemangiomatosis].

The authors discuss the possibility of systemic hemangiomatosis that is difficult to diagnose and treat. In the case they dealt with a disseminated involvement of the oral cavity was combined with lymph node angiomas and, possibly, with angiomas of other organs. The condition had to be differentiated from tuberculosis, Hodgkin's disease, leukemia, and multiple tumors.
