[Electrophysiological research on pain and itching in the clinic].

To study the central mechanisms of pain and itching, the authors performed electroencephalographic (EEG) examination in acupuncture-treated patients with diffuse neurodermatitis (n = 43) and trigeminal neuralgia (n = 25). The most characteristic EEG finding was increased synchronization of the cortical rhythm. The revealed EEG features point to the functional involvement of the thalamocortical system in the development of pain and itching. Changes of clinical and electrophysiological parameters in the course of acupuncture treatment is an additional evidence of the morphofunctional unity of the development of pain and itching.

[Dynamics of the electroencephalogram and rheoencephalogram during reflexotherapy of patients with trigeminal neuralgia].

The examination of the EEG and the REG prior to and after acupuncture in patients with trigeminal neuralgia revealed the characteristic changes in the bioelectrical activity of the brain and in the cerebral circulation. Following the treatment the pattern of these changes was shown to alter. The beneficial time-course of the EEG was predominant although rheoencephalographic indices were also normalized. The majority of cases displayed the correlation between the physiological and clinical indices which prompted the conclusion that the physiological parameters studied were adequate for assessing the efficacy of acupuncture in trigeminal neuralgia.

[The optimization of an early rehabilitation program for cerebral stroke patients: the use of different methods of magneto- and laser therapy].

Magnetotherapy and laser therapy were used in complex and complex-combined regimens in 75 patients after cerebral ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke starting on the poststroke week 4-5. Clinico-neurologic, neurophysiological and cerebrohemodynamic findings evidence for the highest effectiveness of neurorehabilitation including complex magneto-laser therapy in hemispheric ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke of subcortical location in the absence of marked clinico-tomographic signs of dyscirculatory encephalopathy. Complex-combined magneto-laser therapy is more effective for correction of spastic dystonia. Mutual potentiation of magnetotherapy and laser therapy results in maximal development of collateral circulation and cerebral hemodynamic reserve (84% of the patients). Complex effects manifest in arteriodilating and venotonic effects. Complex magneto-laser therapy is accompanied by reduction of hyperthrombocythemia and hyperfibrinogenemia.

[Saccadic automatism in babies during rapid sleep].

Characteristics of rapid eye movements (saccades) in babies (six babies of 1-8 months age) recorded by electrooculography method in paradoxical phase of sleep are analyzed in comparison with analogous data in adults during sleep and in alertness in various conditions of eye movements recording. Coincidence of distribution curves of intersaccadic intervals and amplitudes of saccades in babies and adults is revealed. It is also found that the most frequently met intervals (in the range up to 1 s) in sleep and wakefulness are of comparable values 71.5-90.5%. On the basis of the obtained data the suggestion is made about automation of saccades, forming the base of saccadic activity and manifested in babies and adults during sleep and also in wakefulness, against the background of which other kinds of oculomotor activity are realized. Automation of saccades is formed in early ontogenesis.

[The dynamics of the cerebral circulation under the influence of laser therapy in patients with circulatory encephalopathy].

The cerebral circulation was rheoencephalographically studied in 23 patients before the first session and after a course of pulse laser exposures at 80 Hz and at a wavelength of 0.89 microns. There was a positive dynamics in 42.9 and 56.1% of cases, as evidenced by rheoencephalography of the vertebral and internal carotid artery beds, respectively. Negative vascular responses were likely to occur as impaired intracranial venous circulation. Rheoencephalographic changes were found to be associated with the Doppler ultrasound findings of the capital great vessels and with neurological data.

[Brain bioelectrical activity in the victims of the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station].

Visual and quantitative evaluation of EEG with the help of frequency analysis conducted in subjects exposed to radiation hazards after the Chernobyl accident revealed changes indicative of cerebral mesodiencephalic impairment. The subjects may have defect of compensatory-adaptive mechanisms of the brain provoking high excitability and stress-readiness. The authors believe that such subjects are in need of stress-limiting chemo- and physiotherapy.

[The importance of electroencephalographic studies for evaluating the action of physical treatment methods in patients with a neuroendocrine syndrome and disordered menstrual function].

Electroencephalograms of 43 females (mean age 27.3 +/- 5.2 years) were examined for integral power of various EEG rhythms, delta, beta, alpha, beta 1 intervals for occipital, parietal and frontal region, right and left hemispheres. The frequency analysis was made with regard of EEG type. A particular role of the right hemisphere in development of neuroendocrine pathology is discussed.

[Somatoneurological syndromes in diseases of the respiratory organs and approaches to their physiotherapeutic correction].

Literature data and original experience of the authors in 46 patients with pulmonary lesions (chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, postoperative conditions after pulmonary surgery) suggest the existence of relationships between pulmonary diseases and those of nervous system (central and peripheral). X-ray, ultrasound dopplerography of the major cerebral vessels, EEG and REG revealed cerebrovascular disorders (vascular insufficiency, slow venous outflow). Physiotherapy produced positive changes both in pulmonary and neurological disorders.
