[Clinical trial of a new topical anti-histamine agent histimet in the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis].

21 patients with seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (SAC) entered the trial of a new topical antihistamine drug histimet (levocabastine). The drug is available as a nasal spray and eye drops. The relief of the main symptoms of SAC occurred 15-20 min after histimet introduction into the nose or eye. The effect of a single procedure lasted for 12 hours. Regression of SAC basic symptoms continued for 7 days after using histimet. A significant improvement of life quality was observed. Good effect achieved in 90% of the patients characterizes histimet as an effective new modality in SAC management.

[Bronchial asthma, elevated bronchial reactivity and physical loading].

The paper is concerned with a comparative study of the evidence of case histories, clinical symptomatology, external respiratory function and the effect of beta-adrenergic drugs in patients with bronchial asthma to define conditions contributing to the development of a bronchospasm caused by submaximum physical exertion. It was shown that submaximum physical exertion was followed by marked bronchial obstruction in 60% of patients. A degree of bronchospasm caused by physical exertion was in direct relation to a patient's age, the duration of disease and a period from the onset of disease. A submaximum exercise test was recommended for differential diagnosis of bronchial asthma and a degree of nonspecific raised bronchial reactivity.

[Stimulation of nonspecific resistance in mice with high- and low-molecular fractions of endotoxin on 2 models of Shigella infection].

The capacity of S. paratyphi B endotoxin and its high molecular (HMF) and low molecular (LMF) fractions to stimulate the resistance of mice to shigella infection in intraperitoneal and intranasal challenge was investigated. The HMF developed high activity after the intraperitoneal injection (efficiency index--EI = 2.8). All the preparations were less active on the lung model (EI = 1.6--1.7). Materials of this work lead to the conclusion that in studying the phenomenon of nonspecific resistance induction conditions providing antitoxic and antiinfectious resistance should be considered separately.

[Design of new types of chemical vaccines for the prevention of intestinal infections and problems of their qualitative evaluation. Report 2. Immunochemical characteristics of the experimental preparations].

A study was made of chemical composition and immunochemical properties of 36 samples of the antigenic preparations from typhoid, paratyphoid (A and B) and dysentery (Flexner and Sonne) cultures obtained at the Leningrad, Moscow and Tashkent Institutes of Vaccine and Sera by various methods. The preparations isolated by the method of tryptic proteolysis had a polysaccharide-protein nature, and preparations isolated by the action of chemical reagents (hydroxylamine, hydrogen peroxide, detergents) -- a protein-polysaccharide one. The former contained more nucleic acids, this indicating the presence of components of cytoplasmic and nuclear origin. The preparations were characterized by molecular heterogeneity and contained high- and low-molecular components. The preparations had complex antigenic spectra by the immunodiffusion data; the preparations obtained had complex antigenic spectra by the immunodiffusion data; the preparations obtained had complex antigenic spectra by the immunodiffusion data; the preparations obtained by different method displayed identity reactions, and group specificity was expressed in some of them.

[Alpha-2 macroglobulin from cerebrospinal fluid in neurosurgical diseases].

Content of alpha 2-macroglobulin (alpha 2-MG) was estimated in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with neurosurgical impairments. Minimal content of the globulin was found in patients with brain concussion (0.011 +/- 0.001 g/L, control group), maximal concentration--in severe craniocerebral trauma with brain contraction (0.056 +/- 0.007 g/L) and moderately increased content of alpha 2-MG was detected in intracranial tumors and drug-resistant epilepsy, 0.028 +/- 0.004 g/L and 0.025 +/- 0.004 g/L, respectively. Alteration in content of alpha 2-MG during postoperational period corresponded to clinical state of patients. Estimation of alpha 2-MG in CSF might be used as a criterion of brain impairment severity as well as for monitoring the treatment course.
