[Fluorescein angiographic studies of the perilimbal conjunctiva and limbus in hypertension].

Seventeen patients with vegetovascular dystonia with hypertensive reactions, 19 patients with essential hypertension at IB-IIA stages, and 26 hypertensive patients at IIB stage of the disease underwent fluorescein-angiographic study of the perilimbal conjunctiva and limb. The advantage of this method as compared to the biomicroscopic one, is that it allows one to obtain objectively documented information on the state of vessels and velocity of blood flow in them. It was established that by the method of fluorescein-angiography of the perilimbal conjunctiva region and limb there may be detected pathologic changes in the microcirculation of the field under study not only at early stages of essential hypertension but also in vegetovascular dystonia patients with hypertensive reactions, when changes on the fundus of the eye were absent.

[Fluorescein angiographic studies of the fundus oculi in the malignant arterial hypertension syndrome].

Fluorescein-angiographic examination of fundus oculi in 33 patients with the syndrome of malignant hypertension made it possible to recognize for the first time changes in the choriocapillary layer, which in 29 patients were displayed by choroidal retention; ischemic zones were seen in 20 patients. It is suggested that the discovery of ischemic zones in the choriocapillary layer may be an early diagnostic criterion of malignant hypertension.

[Clinical picture of isolated retinal vasculitis].

Clinical picture of isolated retinal vasculitis (IRV) in 43 patients (25 men and 18 women) aged 22-42 years is analyzed. IRV was bilateral in 88.4% cases and involved the veins. Two forms of disease were distinguished: peripheral (in 75%) and central-peripheral (25%). Both forms were characterized by a high hemorrhagic activity, occlusion of vessels, ischemic zones and neovascularization of the retina and optic disk, but these signs were more frequent in central peripheral form of IRV. IRV is a grave disease leading to poor vision or blindness in 18% cases. The onset is poorly manifest with floating spots and blurred vision; the main symptom is vitreous hemorrhage. Visual acuity was significantly decreased in patients with occlusive IRV in comparison with those without occlusions (0.32 +/- 0.37 vs. 0.77 +/- 0.28). The earliest changes can be detected mainly in the peripheral parts of the retina. This necessitates special attention of ophthalmologist to seemingly negligible complaints of patients and thorough examination of the fundus oculi, particularly of its peripheral sections, which can be performed only on condition of adequate mydriasis. Only timely diagnosis and early pathogenetic therapy can decrease the probability of such complications as hemophthalmos, retinal neovascularization, detachment of retina, and neovascular glaucoma, and prevent disability.

[Fluorescein iridography in post-thrombotic retinopathy].

Fluorescent iridography evidenced that postthrombotic retinopathy is associated with pathologic changes in the iridal vessels, increase of the circulation time, impaired angioarchitectonics, development of shunts and collaterals, in some cases of new vessels. The degree of the pathologic changes in the iris correlates with the severity of the underlying condition. Extravasal release of fluorescein from the iridal and ciliary vessels evidences an impairment of the permeability of the anterior section of the ++hemato-ophthalmic barrier in postthrombotic retinopathy.

[Fluorescein angiography in the diagnosis of injuries of internal ocular membranes].

Fluorescent angiography was used to examine changes in the retina and vascular coating in traumatic and posttraumatic conditions of the eyes in 55 patients aged 12-66 who had traumas 3 days--4 years before. 36 patients had blunt injuries and 16 penetrating wounds of the eyeball. The type of posttraumatic changes in the fundus oculi was examined, and classification of these changes with consideration of their clinical and angiographic signs developed. Fluorescent angiography yields additional data on the process severity and dissemination, its data are prognostically important, it helps define the indications for laser and drug therapy and surgery.

[Hemorrhages in myopia (based on clinical and fluorescence angiographic data)].

The authors analyze the results of examinations of 50 patients (70 eyes) with complicated high myopia, corrected by contact lenses. The mean visual acuity of patients in spectacles has been 0.21, in contact lenses 0.45. Hemorrhages in the fundus oculi have been detected in all the patients, these hemorrhages being a complication of myopia. Basing on the clinical and fluorescent angiography data, the authors have distinguished 2 types of myopic hemorrhages, differing in the origin, course, and outcome. Recommendations on the treatment, strategy and optic correction for patients with high myopia complicated with hemorrhages in the fundus oculi are given.
