[Functional damage of blood vessels and intravascular platelet aggregation in burns].

A study was made of the effect of burn injury on aggregation properties of the vascular wall and platelet aggregation capacity. Maximal accumulation of malonic dialdehyde during thrombin-induced aggregation, maximal rise of the spontaneous intravascular platelet aggregation index, and the most remarkable functional lesions of the vascular wall were observed in the early period (within the first hours), at the disease height (day 7), and during the recovery (day 30). Variation of the homestatic balance between the prostacycline- and thromboxane-generating systems of the blood vessels and platelets in the disease early period is linked with stress reaction and release of biologically active substances (adrenaline, cortisone) to the circulation, whereas at the disease height with marked inflammation and emergence in the blood of endotoxin and break down products of cell membrane phospholipids.

[Effect of ionizing radiation on the functional state of the vascular-thrombocytic component of the hemostasis system].

The influence of ionizing radiation (gamma-rays 60Co) on aggregation activity of the vascular wall and functional (aggregation) platelet activity was studied in the course of the development of acute radiation sickness. The decrease in the aggregation properties of the vascular wall and high functional activity of platelets were inversely proportional, correlating with the periods of acute radiation sickness development and depending on the radiation dose. It is suggested that the changes detected may play a role in the pathogenesis of the development of the postirradiation thrombohemorrhagic syndrome.

[Effect of 60Co gamma rays and fast neutrons on intravascular platelet aggregation and vessel wall prostacyclin activity].

The influence of gamma-rays 60Co and fast neutrons on intravascular platelet aggregation and prostacyclin activity of the vascular wall has been studied. It has been shown that 1-6 hours after irradiation of CBA mice, a great number of bone marrow platelets clump to form fibrin fibrils that often close completely the vascular lumen. Experiments with irradiated rats and guinea-pigs have demonstrated the reduction of prostacyclin-like activity in the abdominal aorta wall.

Animals

[The radioprotective and antioxidant properties of solubilized alpha-tocopherol acetate].

A single intravenous administration of solubilized alpha-tocopherol acetate in a dose of 1 mg/kg to CBA x C57Bl x F1 male mice 3 and 24 hours before radiation was demonstrated to increase 30-day survival rates in the animals. Oily alpha-tocopherol acetate had the identical effects when the agent was intramuscularly given in a dose of 10 mg/kg. There was a rise in peripheral leukocyte counts 0.5 hour after solubilized alpha-tocopherol acetate administration. The antioxidative activity of the solubilized agent was 3.3 times as high as that the routine agent when attacking Tween 80. The higher radioprotective activity of solubilized alpha-tocopherol acetate is accounted for by its enhanced bioavailability, antioxidative activity and effects on the factors of nonspecific body's resistance.

Animals

[The content of immunoreactive calmodulin in the blood cells of irradiated animals].

The immunoreactive calmodulin content was shown to increase in the irradiated platelets of rats and cows. Total Ca content did not vary significantly in platelets of exposed animals although there was a tendency toward its increase. At the same time, total Ca content in lymphocytes of irradiated cows increased while the immunoreactive calmodulin level remained unchanged.

Animals

[Vascular-platelet link in the hemostatic system of diabetics].

Activation of the vascular-platelet link of the hemostasis system: an increase in platelet ADP-induced aggregation, the appearance of platelet aggregates in the vascular bed, an increase in the patients' plasma of beta-thromboglobulin concentration, thrombocytic factor 4, a decrease in antiaggregation activity of the vascular wall and sensitifity of patients' platelets to antiaggregation action of acetylsalicylic acid, was found in diabetes mellitus patients. In the authors' opinion, the above changes play a role in disorders of the microcirculation of the organs and tissues and development of complications in these patients.
