Experimental study of reproduction in C57Bl/6 and random-bred mice exposed to nonionizing high-frequency radiation.

Experimental study of changes in the reproductive function in 10 generations descending from C57Bl/6 and random-bred mice exposed to nonionizing radiation showed a trend to deviation of this function from the normal: the number of newborns in the litter of generations 3-5 was below the normal, which starting from generations 5-6 it gradually increased, approaching the normal.

Exposure to low-intensive superhigh frequency electromagnetic field as a factor of carcinogenesis in experimental animals.

Inbred albino mice and C57Bl/6 mice were exposed to nonthermal radiation of 37 GHz frequency in order to detect delayed effects caused by repeated irradiation. The detected pathomorphological changes and the dynamics of their formation suggest that these factors are responsible for delayed formation of immunodeficiency provoking mutagenic and carcinogenic effects.

Effect of high-frequency low-intensity irradiation on reproductive function in C57Bl/6 and randombred mice.

The effect of high-frequency low-intensity radiation on reproductive function was studied on C57Bl/6 and randombred mice. We revealed a progressive decrease in the number of offspring, prevalence of males over females in all generations, and the appearance of stillbirths. The decrease in the number of offspring was probably related to increased number of homozygotes and decreased number of heterozygotes in the population under the influence of nonthermal radiation.

Shielding effect of mineral schungite during electromagnetic irradiation of rats.

We studied the effect of nonthermal 37-GHz radiation on hemopoiesis in schungite-shielded Wistar rats. Radiation with right-handed or left-handed rotation of the polarization plane of electromagnetic wave was used. Shielding with schungite decreased the severity of damage produced by high-frequency electromagnetic radiation.

[On bioethical and legal studies of use of gene therapy].

The bioethical and legal issues of research developments and the use of gene therapy in Russia are discussed. Prerequisites for development of gene therapy, the trends of researches and the national specific features of the application of gene therapy (religious confessions, ethnicity, health care service) are dealt with.

Clinico-immunologic and allergologic studies with the inactivated influenza virus vaccine purified and concentrated by gradient centrifugation.

Vaccination activity and safety of inactivated influenza centrifugal divaccine have been studied in groups of subjects aged 18 to 22, 15 to 16, and 9 to 14 years. The vaccine tested contained either a standard dose (6-8 micrograms) or double a dose (12-16 micrograms) of the haemagglutinin (HA) of influenza viruses A(H1N1) and A(H3N2). The double antigenic load of the vaccine did not enhance its reactogenicity for adults or adolescents aged 15 to 16 years. It enhanced, however, the production of antihaemagglutinine antibodies to the vaccine strains. The range of the antibodies formed and their persistence were independent on the virus dose. The increased dose (12-16 micrograms) of HA decreased the humoral immune response in school children aged from 11 to 14 years. Neither standard nor double dose of the vaccine caused any changes in the biochemical or haematological parameters of blood and urine. No allergic response was registered by the indirect mast cell degranulation (IMCD) test in rats.

[Allergenic action of inactivated influenza vaccines].

The allergenic action of influenza vaccines was evaluated by the determination of the capacity of sera, taken before and after immunization, for inducing the degranulation of rat mast cells in the presence of the vaccine preparation. In this test sera from three groups of volunteers immunized with experimental and commercial batches of influenza inactivated vaccines, purified and concentrated by gradient centrifugation, was studied. The absence of immediate-type allergization after a single administration of the vaccines under study was shown.

Modulation of humoral immune response to influenza vaccines by BCG.

BCG-induced modulation of humoral immune response to influenza vaccines was studied on adult volunteers and laboratory animals. Three influenza vaccine types were used: inactivated whole-virion vaccine prepared by chromatography, chemically split adsorbed vaccine and live allantoic vaccine for intranasal vaccination. According to the indices of humoral immunity against influenza such as seroconversion, frequency and intensity of antibody formation and degree of protection to subsequent administration of the vaccine virus, the BCG vaccine had a marked immunomodulating effect in combination with the adsorbed chemically split vaccine. The effect was slight in the case of the whole-virion vaccine and was absent with the live attenuated vaccine.

Simultaneous application of influenza chemovaccine and "Vaxigrip" preparations with BCG.

Experiments in guinea pigs and rabbits have shown that simultaneous immunization against influenza and tuberculosis had no effect on the reactogenic properties of both vaccines. No inhibitory effect of the BCG vaccine on the influenza virus antibody production was observed. Production of antituberculosis antibodies was the most intensive following a simultaneous immunization of animals with BCG and inactivated influenza vaccines. Both separate and simultaneous immunization conferred to animals a similar grade of protection against virulent tuberculosis mycobacteria. Application of the combined preparation "Vaxigrip" & BCG (in mixture) caused complicated local reactions and had little immunogenic effect.

[Simultaneous vaccination against influenza A and tuberculosis].

Observations made on adults in open groups have revealed that inactivated chromatographic influenza vaccine and BCG vaccine, when introduced simultaneously, retain their reactogenic and antigenic properties. The faintly pronounced stimulating effect of BCG vaccine on the formation of influenza antibodies has been noted. A decrease in the total morbidity level has been registered among the vaccinees immunized against influenza and tuberculosis simultaneously.

Search for optimal scheme for administering live allantoic influenza vaccine.

The effect of vaccine dilution and composition on indices of vaccination activity was studied in a live allantoic influenza vaccine administered intranasally to adults. The vaccine was shown to be usable in a 1:1 (instead of 1:5) dilution without risk of its reactogenicity rising. An inhibition of component A(H3N2) was observed in a bivalent vaccine obtained by combining directly before use two monovalent vaccines, A(H1N1) and A(H3N2). The conclusions and recommendations based on the results of the present study have practical implications in influenza control.
