Varix of the digit is a rarely described lesion. Over 3 years, eight patients were diagnosed as having this abnormality. Surgical confirmation of the identity of the lesion was accomplished in six of these patients. Repetitive trauma, mechanical compression, and aging phlebectasia have all been associated with the pathogenesis of a digital varix. Thrombophlebitic and thrombotic changes occurring within the varix may lead to an erroneous assessment and clinical confusion. In such instances, a tourniquet test has been useful in demonstrating the presence of a varix. Excision of a symptomatic lesion has proven to be curative for all six patients. Two patients have been observed for 3 years with little change and no resolution of the varix. It is probable that varix of the digit is a more common lesion than indicated by a review of the literature.
We report an unusual case of gigantomastia in a pregnant woman that began several months prior to her fifth pregnancy and progressed so rapidly that it required an urgent reduction mammaplasty. Her evaluation revealed no endocrine abnormality or serum factor responsible for this condition. The etiology of this rare condition remains unknown.

Midline cervical cleft is a rare congenital anomaly of the ventral neck. A series of 12 cases of midline cervical clefts over a 30-year period is reported. This anomaly is part of a spectrum of midline branchiogenic syndromes resulting from abnormal migration of cells derived from the branchial arches. The preferred operative correction requires complete excision of the cleft with its underlying fibrous cord and closure with multiple Z-plasties.
An unusual case of multiple chondrosarcomas of the hand arising from multiple enchondromas is presented. Chondrosarcoma is an unusual tumor of the hand that requires careful clinical, radiological, and pathological examination for accurate diagnosis. These tumors can usually be managed successfully by wide local excision or ray amputation. However, long follow-up is indicated.
Because injudicious surgery may adversely alter nasal function, those who treat problems of the nose should be aware of nasal physiology. The nose has seven functions: airway, air conditioning, air cleaning, olfaction, phonation, reflex, and secondary sex organ. These are reviewed in detail and their significance to the planning and performance of an aesthetic rhinoplasty, septal surgery, and turbinate surgery appropriately noted. Form and function are related.
All surgical procedures are associated with risks. They may be divided into undesired sequelae, which are normal and expected, and complications, which are not normal or expected. The undesired sequelae of suction lipectomy are contour irregularities, hypesthesia, edema, ecchymosis, and pigmentary deposits. The potential complications are blood loss, hematoma, seroma, infection, greater saphenous vein thrombosis, fat emboli, and skin slough. These are discussed in detail.
