[Clinical and x-ray diagnosis and diagnosis and classification of occupational fluorosis].

The authors summarize longstanding experience in studies of chronic occupational intoxication caused by fluoric compounds. Findings are that diagnosis and clinical classification of occupational fluorosis should base on osteosclerotic changes in compact substance of peripheral bones, primarily of forearms and legs. The authors give clinical classification of occupational fluorosis.

[Clinical course of asbestosis under the existing conditions in extraction and processing of serpentine asbestos].

The authors followed changes in clinical course of asbestosis, comparing groups of individuals working in exposure to chrysotile-asbestos dust, patients having so-called late asbestosis and reference group (individuals with absent or minimal roentgenologic changes in lungs). Analysis of 530 case histories proved increase of average length of service in dusty conditions before asbestosis development, longer progression of pulmonary fibrosis. Asbestosis progression does not depend on medical resolutions. "Late" asbestosis occurs in retired workers who were engaged into auxiliary occupations. Low baseline values of respiratory function and associated respiratory infection worsen the overall prognosis.

[The investigation of adaptation processes in sheet metal workers].

The study covered 100 individuals long working in hot metallurgic shops (forging and nonferrous metals processing) under unfavorable occupational conditions. Heating microclimate appeared to be leading occupational hazard. Adaptation to occupational environment was studied in all the examinees and 4 groups were defined according to the adaptation level and functional state of cardiovascular system. The study also included testing of psychiatric balneologic complex--bromide and iodine baths with magnetic laser therapy on Zakharyin-Ged zones.

[The clinical characteristics of the early stages of occupational fluorosis under the combined and joint action of production factors].

Over 1000 workers of hydrofluoric and cryolite enterprises and electrolysis shops of aluminium enterprises were examined. Subjects exposed to soluble hydrofluorides presented in the early stage of chronic intoxication with a variety of syndromes, that was characteristic of intoxication with poisons of general toxic action with involvement of hepatobiliary, digestive, circulatory and autonomic nervous systems. Combined exposure to fluoric compounds, heating microclimate and electromagnetic fields results in a graver involvement of the circulatory and autonomic nervous systems. Clinical and experimental data show, that osteoarthrosis deformans of the major joints (primarily elbow joint) must be regarded as one of the symptoms of fluorosis, when other intoxication signs are present.

[Bromide-iodide baths and magnetic-laser radiation in the correction of disorders of hemodynamics and of the adaptation processes in metallurgical workers].

Positive changes in cardiovascular function and extracardiac regulation of cardiac rhythm in response to treatment by chloride-sodium bromine-iodine baths combined with magnetolaser radiation of the Zakhar'in-Ged zones suggest the conclusion on adaptogenic effects of the above physiobalneotherapeutic complex. The highest effect of magnetolaser therapy and bromine-iodine baths in metallurgists with adaptive disorders is achieved in early morning hours.

[The role of physical balneological factors in the treatment of occupational diseases].

The authors review the results obtained in the treatment of some occupational diseases using physical factors. In osteoarthritis patients exposed to fluorine compounds good results were achieved at employment of decimeter-wave therapy combined with mud applications or sulfurated hydrogen baths. Patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis benefited from combination of EHF therapy with alternating magnetic field. Initial lead intoxication was effectively treated with magnetotherapy. Subjects with vascular pathology occupationally exposed to high temperature responded to magnetolaser impact on reflexogenic regions of the heart.
