Presented is the initial clinical evaluation of Ocuflur, a compound of Allergan. The influence of the drug on the size of the pupil and the reaction of the pupil to a light flash was tested in volunteer subjects. The efficacy of the drug was tested intraoperatively.
Presented is a case of a woman-patient with a mixed tumor of the lacrimal gland which grew to an infrequently seen size. The tumor was excised and identified as a non-malignant one. Three years after surgery came a renewed extensive expansion of the tumor. Exenteration of the orbit was performed and histopathological examination revealed a mixed malignant tumor of the gland.
Examination of the filtration angle comprised 86 eyes with implanted artificial intraocular lenses in the 8th postoperative month. The evaluation detected in both groups the appearance of pigmentary deposits in the trabecular area, of circumferential anterior synechiae and of vascular proliferation of the circumference of the iris. In some patients with anterior chamber lenses were observed abnormalities in the position of the implant.
Visual acuity with correction was checked in 86 persons with anterior and posterior chamber lenses in various postoperative periods. In the majority of examines of both groups in the late postoperative period the visual acuity was correct. The results obtained in both groups of patients were compared. The causes of astigmatism detected in some cases were considered.
The IOP was checked in 86 eyes with implanted intraocular lenses in various postoperative periods. There was no essential difference in the behaviour of the IOP in persons with anterior or posterior chamber lenses. Causes of secondary glaucoma appearing in some cases were considered.
One of complications of burns of the eye caused by lime are the conjunctival adhesions. Presented are 2 patients who were treated by strips of Miragel acrylate sponge implanted temporarily into the conjunctival sac. After 1 year of observation and removal of the implants the conjunctival sac showed to be free of adhesions with a free motility of the eye.
Investigations were performed in a group of 16 patients after cataract extraction with implantation of an intraocular artificial lens. The authors evaluated the condition of the iris on the basis of a biomicroscopic examination and fluorescein angiography up to 1 year after surgery.
