The effects on stretching and prostaglandin F2alpha on the contractile and bioelectric activity of the uterus in rat.

The effects of stretching and of prostaglandin F2alpha on spontaneous and induced with local deformation contractile activity of rat uterus were studied. It was found that stretching the uterus up to the length of the decontracted organ in vivo increased the contractile and bioelectric activity. The rise in spontaneous uterine activity was a factor reducing induction of additional contractions. The fall in the level of endogenous prostaglandins in the uterus following administration of indomethacin inhibited the spontaneous contractile activity but was without effect on the contractions induced by local deformation of the myometrium. Prostaglandin F2alpha added to the bath in a concentration of 0.001 ng/ml exerted an inhibitory action on the different tested parameters of the contractile activity. After high doses stimulation of the uterine activity was observed.

[Insulin and C-peptide levels in patients with idiopathic arterial hypertension].

Insulinemia in patients with essential hypertension and normal glucose tolerance was assessed. The study involved 25 patients divided into subgroups according body weight and 9 of control subjects. It was found, that hyperinsulinemia seen in hypertensive patients seems to be associated with obesity. Moreover, hyperinsulinemia does not depend primarily on hypersecretion of insulin but may reflect resistance to insulin and ab normal metabolism in the liver.

Changes of certain biochemical placental components during Salbupart tocolysis.

The studies material comprised 10 placentae from pregnancies at risk for premature labour with delayed intrauterine growth of the fetus treated with Salbupart from the 32nd week of pregnancy. In placental homogenates the biochemical components were determined for fragmentary assessment of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and production on high-energy compounds. Salbupart was found to increase the oxidation processes in the placenta. This increases the production of biologically useful chemical energy which is expressed as increased energy charge (so called Atkinson's index or adenylate energy charge). Increased energy yield of the placenta results in improved materno-fetal transport and contributes to greater weight gain of the hypotrophic fetus.
