Renal tubular function in gestation.
During pregnancy, the filtered load of most ions and small-mol wt solutes increases. Overall, sodium, water, and potassium reabsorption increases, as does excretion of calcium and glucose. Many of the changes occur in the proximal tubule or the loop of Henle. The mechanisms underlying the changes are discussed.
