[Specific features of tuberculosis of peripheral lymph nodes with specific process in the respiratory organs].

102 patients with verified tuberculosis of the peripheral lymph nodes (TPLN), including 40 patients with specific process in the respiratory apparatus, were examined. The lymph nodes of the neck were found to be primarily affected in such patients (89%); by the 2nd month, conglomerates develop from such nodes, with the latter evolving into fistulas (44.4%) and into abscesses (40%). A high specificity and sensitivity of the test with the blood serum for adenosine deaminase were proven. Different types of anti-tuberculosis antibodies are isolated with various rates; therefore, it is advisable to study the answers to all serological reactions.

[Dysfunctions of respiration and blood circulation in patients with concomitant tuberculosis of the spinal column and lungs].

Functional disorders in the respiratory apparatus and blood circulation were studied in 76 patients with tuberculosis of the spinal column concomitant with pulmonary tuberculosis. Spirography, pneumotachography, elctrocardiography, integral rheography and the method variability of cardiac rate were made use of in the diagnostics of the mentioned disorders. Combined tuberculosis of the spinal column and lungs was found to be accompanied, in case of an active pulmonary process, by instable hemodynamic indices, a reduced contractive myocardium function, an insufficient hemodynamic provision and an increased tension in the respiratory system (impaired ventilation and bronchial patency). Simultaneously, a significant vegetative imbalance with an extremely pronounced hypersympathicotonia and over-tension of the adaptation mechanisms in an active pulmonary process, were registered. The detected dysfunctions need to be corrected due to a forthcoming surgical treatment of tuberculous spondylitis.

[Multiorgan tuberculosis: central peripheral hemodynamic features].

The paper deals with the study of central and peripheral hemodynamic features in patients with multiorgan tuberculosis. The study is based on the analysis of examination findings and treatment outcomes in 42 patients with concurrent tuberculosis of the lung and vertebral column. A control group consisted of 46 patents with spinal tuberculosis. The authors provide evidence that concurrent pulmonary and spinal tuberculosis substantially makes basic central and peripheral hemodynamic parameters worse in patients with tuberculosis spondylosis, aggravates their general condition, requires cardiotropic therapy on an individual basis, substantially prolongs preoperative preparation and postoperative rehabilitation.

[Cardiovascular diseases and ocular tuberculosis].

The pattern of cardiovascular diseases (61%) was studied in patients with tuberculous uveitis, there was a prevalence of primary (34.6%) and secondary (8.6%) arterial hypertensions. There was an association of complicated tuberculous uveitis (subretinal neovascularization, pigment and neuronal epithelial detachment) with the presence of cardiovascular diseases, central and peripheral hemodynamic disorders. A greater reduction in visual functions was ascertained in concurrent abnormalities in the experimental group (0.55 +/- 0.07) than in the controls (0.80 +/- 0.04). The paper recommends that patients with eye tuberculosis and contaminant cardiovascular diseases should be registered and the continuity of their combined antituberculous and pathogenetic treatments ensured; functional studies expanded to make an early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in patients with tuberculous uveitis; the efficiency of treating the underlying and concomitant cardiovascular diseases separately evaluated.

[Systemic dysfunctions in patients with tuberculous spondylitis and their clinical significance for surgical treatment].

The paper provides the results of studies into the pathophysiological mechanisms of respiratory and cardiovascular dysfunctions in patients with tuberculous spondylitis complicated by spinal marrow disorders. It also shows their clinical value at various stages of surgical treatment. The authors shows it necessary to perform a multi-modality rehabilitative therapy by monitoring the functions in the postoperative period, which is aimed at recovering functions of vital viscera and systems of the body, as well as locomotor functions.

The first "space" vegetables have been grown in the "SVET" greenhouse using controlled environmental conditions.

The paper describes the "SVET" project--a new generation of space greenhouse with small dimensions. Through the use of a minicomputer, "SVET" is fully capable of automatically operating and controlling environmental systems for higher plant growth. A number of preliminary studies have shown the radish and cabbage to be potentially important crops for CELSS (Closed Environmental Life Support System). The "SVET" space greenhouse was mounted on the "CRYSTAL" technological module docked to the Mir orbital space station on 10 June 1990. Soviet cosmonauts Balandin and Solovyov started the first experiments with the greenhouse on 15 June 1990. Preliminary results of seed cultivation over an initial 54-day period in "SVET" are presented. Morphometrical characteristics of plants brought back to Earth are given. Alteration in plant characteristics, such as growth and developmental changes, or morphological contents were noted. A crop of radish plants was harvested under microgravity conditions. Characteristics of plant environmental control parameters and an estimation of functional properties of control and regulation systems of the "SVET" greenhouse in space flight as received via telemetry data is reported.

The first "space" vegetables have been grown in the "SVET" greenhouse by means of controlled environmental conditions.

The paper describes the project "SVET"--the creating of a small dimensions space greenhouse of new generation. By means of minicomputer, "SVET" is full-automatic operating and controlling environmental conditions system in the higher plants growth unit. A number of studies have selected the radish and cabbage vegetables as a potentially important crop for CELSS (short term cycle of vegetation). The "SVET" space greenhouse has been mounted on the "CRYSTAL" technological module which docked to the "MIR" orbital space station on June 10, 1990. Soviet cosmonauts Balandin and Solovyov started the first experiments with the greenhouse on June 15, 1990. The preliminary results of the seeds cultivation for the first 54-days period in "SVET" are presented. Morphometrical characteristics of the plants, brought back to the Earth are given. The vegetation peculiarities, such as the plants growth and the development slowing-down, or the dry substance contents raising are noted. For the first time, the root crop of radish plants at microgravity conditions, are produced. Characteristics of controlled plants' environment parameters and an estimation of functional properties of control and regulation systems of the "SVET" greenhouse in space flight according to telemetry data is given.

[Central and peripheral hemodynamics in patients with tuberculous spondylitis and spinal cord disorders].

The results of study of central and peripheral hemodynamics in 79 tuberculosis spondylitis patients are presented. The rate and degree of central and peripheral hemodynamic disorders were dependent on the presence and severity of cerebrospinal disturbances. It is recommended that the body's integral rheography, rheovasography and thermovision be used as a diagnostic means for early detection of cardiovascular disorders as well as the determination of their manifestation degree and control of treatment effectiveness.

Role of cAMP in regulation of activity of acid hydrolases of rat heart and liver during ischemia and after recirculation.

The interrelation between intracellular cAMP content and activity of lysosomal hydrolases was studied in rat liver and heart during ischemia of varying genesis and after recirculation. The activity of acid phosphatase (AP) and cathepsin D (CD) was determined in the fraction enriched with lysosomes (FEL) and in the supernatant fraction (SF) at 30,000 x g. Ischemia of isolated perfused heart of 20 to 60 min as described by Langendorff was accompanied by an increase in the SF/FEL ratio. Postischemic reperfusion resulted in a further increase in this ratio. In a terminal state induced by cardiac arrest of 10 min and within the first postresuscitation hours the SF/FEL ratio in the rat liver also increased. Processing of the liver FEL with 0.025% concentration of detergent Triton X-100 was also indicative of lability of lysosomal membranes during recirculation. The intracellular cAMP content changed differently. During ischemia of the myocardium, the cAMP level rose by 40 min and remained increased after 20 and 40 min of reperfusion. The cAMP content in the liver decreased after 10 min of circulatory arrest and increased in the postresuscitation period achieving its peak 4 h after resuscitation. Intra-abdominal injection of lyposomes with incapsulated cAMP to rats in the postresuscitation period and the study of the effect of dibutyryl-cAMP, caffeine and isoproterenol on the activity of acid hydrolases of ischemic heart and after postischemic reperfusion showed that an increase in the cAMP content achieved in various ways was conducive to stabilization of lysosomal membranes.

[Prognostic value of functional methods of the study of respiration and blood circulation in surgery of tuberculous spondylitis].

Prognostic value of the basic indices of the external respiration function and central hemodynamics in view of predicting the nature of an early postoperative period in tuberculous spondylitis patients is demonstrated. Such indices, as vital capacity, ventilation and hemodynamic supply indices, and mean pressure in the pulmonary artery have the greatest prognostic value. One-dimensional analysis of variance of the functional examination data obtained from 209 patients with tuberculous spondylitis was used in this study.
