[Dermatoses characteristics for particular occupations. II. Health services and various other services].

The period after which skin changes appear is discussed, as well as localisation of their earliest appearance and allergens characteristic for physicians, dentists, nurses, veterinary surgeons and assistants, photographers and hair- dressers . Photographes handling coloured developers were found to be more exposed to dermatosis than those handling black and white ones. Ladies' hair- dressers suffer more frequently than gentelmen 's and nurses coming into contact with antibiotics and disinfectants are more exposed than other nurses.

[Dermatoses characteristic in particular occupations. I. Various branches of industry].

Dermatoses characteristic for several branches of industry: metal, electrotechnical, photochemical and pharmaceutical and for laminators and galvanizers are discussed. The periods are given after which skin changes appear, their primary localisation and the allergens specific for the particular occupations. In photo-chemical industry workers, beside dermatitis. lichen planus was also noted.

Dermatitis, Contact↗

[Allergy to industrial oil components].

The paper presents the data on the allergy to chromium in the workers dealing with oils. Single cases of hypersensitivity to additives refining industrial oils, such as triethandamine and hydrazine are described. Gross reactions between triethanolamine and the component of shampoos treithanolamine oxyethylane - sulphate have been demonstrated.

[Contact allergy to epoxy resin hardeners].

447 patients suffering from eczema, occupationally exposed to epoxy resins, have been tested with Epidian 5 and five triethylenetetramine concentrations. By comparing the obtained results with literature data it has been found that in Poland those health damages are characterized by a considerable percentage of those sensitized to triethylenetetramine. The calculation of eczema incubation period and testing the allergen by several allergen concentrations demonstrated that the sensitivity to triethylenetetramine is sometimes very enhanced.

[Incidence and the results of treatment of beta-lactamase-positive gonorrhea with spectinomycin (trobicin)].

Beta-lactamase-positive gonorrhoea was rather sporadic in Poland. In spring 1988 a marked rise was observed in the proportion of therapeutic failures in the treatment of gonorrhoea with procaine penicillin (4.8 million u) with probenecid among patient treated in the outpatient clinic of the Venereology Institute in Warsaw. The cause was infection with beta-lactamase producing gonococci. Up to June 1989 beta-lactamase production ability was tested in gonococci cultured from 415 patients (363 men and 52 women) with positive results in 73 cases (61 men and 11 women) that is in 18%. Most (85%) patients were treated with spectinomycin (2 g intramuscularly in men and 4 g in women in one dose) with cure in all cases. Treatment with tetracycline (2 g daily for 7 days) given to 12 patients failed in 2 cases. These results, if confirmed in other parts of the country, will cause the necessity of revision of the presently accepted indications for gonorrhoea treatment with penicillin with probenecid as the basic method.

[Incidence of HIV infections among the patients of the outpatient clinic of the Institute of Venereology].

The presence of anti-HIV antibodies was sought in 1061 patients (818 men and 243 women) with various sexually transmitted diseases; the group of men contained 29 homosexuals (3.5%) and 26 were bisexual (3.2%). Together these deviants accounted for 7.1% of the group. EIA test confirmed with the Western-blot test gave positive result in 11 patients, including 10 homosexual and bisexual men, that is in 18.2% of the subgroup of men with this deviation, and in 1 heterosexual man (0.13%). Over one-half of them had or had had syphilis, and in the subgroup of homosexuals the patients with syphilis amounted to 36%. The proportion of HIV infections in homosexuals, patients of outpatient clinics for sexually transmitted diseases, is much higher than in heterosexual patients in these clinics and homosexuals not treated in these clinics. Patients in outpatient clinics for sexually transmitted diseases are a high risk group for HIV infection (especially homosexuals with syphilis) and should be tested for the presence of anti-HIV antibodies.
