An examination of the dental state of an Egyptian mummy by means of computer tomography: a contribution to 'dentistry in Ancient Egypt'.

In 1991 mummies from Leipzig collections were investigated by means of conventional X-ray techniques and by computer tomography. The dental state of one of these mummies prompted a re-examination of the question of whether a dental profession actually existed in Ancient Egypt or not. To answer this question, different types of source material are discussed.

[Robert Neumann (1882-1958) and his contribution to the development of periodontology].

In the first third of the 20. century numerous dental surgeons intensively strived for the exploration of the nature of periodontopathies and for the development of kinds of their therapy. Among these Robert Neumann did research work, who especially deserved well about the introduction of the so-called radical-surgical treatment. This method can be regarded to be the source of the flap operation still performed in our days. By numerous scientific studies and his essential personal engagement Robert Neumann substantially contributed to the establishment of the special branch periodontology.
