Phospholine was isolated as an antitumor antibiotic from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Phospholine is an amphoteric compound which has an amino group and a phosphoric acid ester as functional groups. Phospholine shows strong activities against L1210, P388 and EL-4.
Phospholine, an antitumor antibiotic, has the molecular formula of C25H40NO8P and possesses a delta-lactone and a phosphoric acid ester as functional groups. Its structure was determined based on interpretation of fast atom bombardment MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 1H-1H correlation spectroscopy (COSY), 13C-1H COSY, heteronuclear multiple bond correlation spectroscopy, elemental analysis and chemical modifications.

A 36-year-old man who suffered from recurrence of hemangiopericytoma originating in the cerebellar tentorium and multiple extracranial metastasis over 14 years was reported. Analysis of the 104 cases of extracranial metastasis sampled from the Annual of the Pathological Autopsy Cases in Japan revealed that the frequency of extracranial metastasis is 3.8% of all brain tumors. Extracranial metastasis was frequently found in medulloblastoma, glioblastoma multiforme, malignant meningioma and ependymoma. Organs of frequent metastasis were the lung, bone, liver, pleura, and kidney. Bone metastasis was especially frequent in the vertebra.
12 normal ovulatory women were studied during 17 menstrual cycles. The first day on which the women had increasing quantities of 0.1 ml or more clear cervical mucus (IQCCM) was closely related to the time of ovulation as monitored by basal body temperature and radioimmunoassay of serum-luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, and progesterone. The results show that the time of ovulation can be predicted clinically without specialized tests by observing the day of onset of IQCCM.
Five day old female rats were administered either 500 micrograms clomiphene citrate or propylene glycol. Vaginal opening occurred significantly earlier in the clomiphene treated group as compared with the control group. Clomiphene treated rats showed permanent sterility associated with anovulatory vaginal cycles in which the stage of vaginal cornification predominated. Furthermore, clomiphene treated rats exhibited a high incidence of pyosalpinx (or oviductal abscess). The possible mechanisms responsible for the anovulatory sterility and the pyosalpinx induced by neonatal clomiphene treatment are discussed.
