[Sacral epidural anesthesia as a method in technically complicated abortions].

An experience is reported with the use of epidural-sacral anesthesia for artificial abortion in 102 primiparae+- and nulligravidas and in 86 patients with scarring deformity or partial atresia of the endocervix. Two percent trimecaine was used in a single dose 6 mg/kg. A high efficiency of anesthesia was seen in 92% of cases. There was a significant relaxation of the cervix which facilitated cervical dilation and reduced the incidence of tissue injury. The population under study showed a lower incidence of intraoperative blood loss and early postabortal complications as compared with a population which received other anesthesia. These results suggest that epidural-sacral anesthesia is a promising technique for artificial abortion in primiparae+- and nulliparous women and in women with scarring cervical lesions.

[Nonspecific resistance of the body in patients with peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis].

Indices of unspecific resistance (bactericidal serum activity, phagocytic reaction of neutrophils, lysozyme) were examined in 128 patients with ulcer disease and chronic gastritis. Changes of local and general mechanisms of unspecific reactivity of the gastro-intestinal tract result not only in disorders of the defence system but also in a reduction of viability of the gastric and duodenal epithelium with development of alteration processes. In this condition bacterial and protein antigens may change the immunological status of the body.

Enzyme immuno assay for the detection of virus specific IgG and IgM antibody in patients with haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome.

Consecutive serum samples collected from 235 patients with Haemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS), between two days and two years after onset of disease, have been analysed for the presence of IgG and IgM type of antibodies specific for Hanta-viruses. The sera were screened in parallel by a newly developed indirect Immuno Enzyme Assay (EIA) in parallel with Indirect Immunofluorescent Antibody Assay (IFA). In both tests the Hantaan virus strain 76-118 was used as the antigen. The EIA was much more sensitive than the IFA test for the detection of IgM type antibodies. With the indirect EIA IgM type antibodies against Hantaan virus 76-118 have been detected in HFRS patient's sera from the second day of illness indicating the usefulness of this test for the early serological diagnosis of this disease.

[Clinico-virologic analysis of the incidence of tick-borne encephalitis in the Khabarovskh region].

In the Soviet Union the incidence of tick-borne encephalitis is the highest in the geographical and epidemiological region adjacent to the Amur River (zone of coniferous and broad-leaved forests). 60.43% of all cases fall on years of cyclic rise of the disease incidence. Strains of the tick-borne encephalitis virus can be isolated with a more significant frequency from the blood of encephalitis-sick patients and from the brain of the dead in the years of disease outbreaks.
