[A comparative study in the treatment of complicated wounds following obstetrical-gynecological interventions].

The results are announced of the treatment of 64 (1.28%) complicated incisions after 4981 obstetric and gynecological interventions over a 3-year period. The cases observed are distributed in two groups: Group One--30 patients treated with the medicinal and surgical methods used in traditional clinic practice, and Group Two--34 patients undergone laser therapy. Comparing the results of the treatment the authors arrive at the conclusions that the He-Neon laser has a place in the treatment of complicated incisions in obstetric and gynecological practices helping to avoid certain allergic reactions, to reduce considerably the hospital stay and therefore has an economic effect.

Combined Modality Therapy

[The use of low-energy lasers via action on the acupuncture points in inflammatory processes in the adnexa].

The paper deals with the effect of low-energy lasers in treating cases of subacute and chronic inflammatory processes of the adnexa through impact on biologically active points. The results in 30 patients treated with laser puncture have been observed and compared with the results in 30 women treated according to the classical methods. It has been found that the patients with subacute and chronic inflammatory processes treated with laser puncture spend in hospital 3 days less than the other patients and the pain symptoms disappear quickly. It can be concluded that the application of low-energy lasers through impact on biologically active points in subacute and chronic adnexitis can find its place in gynaecological practice.

Acupuncture Points

[Practical observations of the use of the contraceptive preparation Anteovin].

The authors describe their observations on the usage of the Hungarian biphasic contraceptive preparation Anteovin. 398 cycles of 42 women are follow-up. On the basis of the observations and subjective evaluation of the patients, the authors conclude that the preparation is well tolerated and is reliable, but is especially suitable for administration in women at the end of their reproductive period as well as in nonparous young women.

[Delivery after cesarean section based on the data of the Obstetrical-Gynecological Clinic of the Higher Medical Institute in Plovdiv for the period of 1984-1988].

The authors studied the history of delivery of all women, who delivered for the period of 1984-1988. For this period 8981 deliveries took place, 849 of which (9.45%) by cesarean section. For the same period 193 women were admitted to the clinic after undergone cesarean section. 161 out of 193 women (83.4%) were delivered by repeated section. 113 women delivered by elective repeated section. Trial of labour was carried out on 80 women. 32 out of 80 women delivered vaginally. Trial of labour was unsuccessful in the remaining 48 women and delivery ended by cesarean section. The causes for failure in the trial of labour are discussed as well as the possible ways for increasing its efficiency.

[Alkaline phosphatase in the leukocytes of pregnant women with pre-eclampsia].

The authors studied 74 pregnant women with preeclampsia presenting various degrees of gravity. The activity of alkaline phosphatase was determined cytochemically in the leucocytes. It was established that the activity of the enzyme was unchanged in mild preeclampsia and diminished progressively with advancement of the pathological process, compared with the respective values of normally progressing pregnancy at the same gestational period. A cytochemical criterium is proposed for differentiating the mild form of preeclampsia form the moderate form of preeclampsia.

Alkaline Phosphatase

[The HLA system in normal and pathological pregnancies].

The authors investigated 205 women, 50 of whom were nonpregnant, 32 with normally progressing pregnancy, 30 parturients, 30 with abortions, 30 with prolonged pregnancy and 35 with pre-eclampsia. There were no statistically significant changes between the percentage of cases with positive lymphocytotoxic test, presence of leucoagglutinins and thrombocytic antibodies among the single groups. There were HLA-antibodies, which were not titrated due to the low titre in 4 of the women with pre-eclampsia.

[Alkaline phosphatase in the leukocytes of women with a normal pregnancy].

280 women were studied--30 of whom were nonpregnant and 250 were pregnant at various periods of normal progressing pregnancy. The activity of leucocytic alkaline phosphatase was determined cytochemically. It was established that the activity of the enzyme was elevated even at the earliest periods of pregnancy compared with the activity of nonpregnant women. The activity increased continuously up to 25-27 week's gestation. After this period up to 35-37 week's gestation the activity of leucocytic alkaline phosphatase was constant. New elevation of enzymic activity was established at the term of pregnancy. Possible causes for the observed changes were discussed. Reference values for the activity of leucocytic alkaline phosphatase during the second half of normal progressing pregnancy are described.

[Circulating immune complexes in women with prolonged pregnancy].

The authors examined 90 pregnant women, divided into three groups: pregnant women at 39-40 weeks gestation, parturients and women with prolonged pregnancy. Circulating immune complexes were determined. Differences in the three groups were statistically significant. The lowest level of circulating immune complexes was found in women with prolonged pregnancy, but the highest--in parturients. Inferences are made for the significance of circulating immune complexes for the onset of delivery and development of postmaturity.

Antigen-Antibody Complex

[Alkaline phosphatase isoenzyme activity in the serum of women during the second half of pregnancy].

The authors determined total alkaline phosphatase activity as well as the activity of placental, bone marrow and liver isoenzymes in sera of 185 pregnant women with normal pregnancy, divided, into 6 groups according to their gestational age (from 20 to 40 weeks' gestation). It was established an increase of bone marrow and placental isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase parallel to an increase of gestational age, while the values of liver isoenzyme were comparatively constant, with the exception at 34-36 weeks' gestation when was elevated. Inferences are made for the origin of hyperphosphatemia during pregnancy.
