A significantly higher survival rate was obtained when frozen-thawed morulae were transferred to oviducts of recipients ovulating after donors rather than to those of synchronized or earlier ovulating recipients. The highest proportion of live young, 23%, was obtained after transfer of eggs to recipients ovulating 18 h after donors. The proportion of live young (48%) was significantly increased when frozen-thawed rabbit morulae were transferred into both oviducts of recipients at this stage.
Bivalent (IgG) rabbit anti-mouse zona pellucida antibody completely inhibited fertilization in the mouse. Univalent (Fab) zona antibody did not inhibit the fertilizability of eggs. However, the treatment or injection with anti-rabbit IgG serum inhibited the fertilization of eggs pretreated with antiserum Fab or eggs from females injected with antiserum Fab. It is concluded that the inhibition of fertilization by bivalent louse zona antibody depends on the possibility that the antisera are directed against the zona as a whole and not specifically against the receptors for the sperm.
The titers of rabbit antiserum against isolated mouse zonae pellucidae were examined by several methods in connection with inhibitory effect on fertilization. The titers determined by zona precipitate, zona dissolution, indirect immunofluorescence and in vitro fertilization tests were 2(4), 2(1) to 2(4), 2(7) and 2(4), respectively. Cytotoxic effect could not be detected from zona antibody. The indirect immunofluorescence was most sensitive for detection of zona antibody but did not represent the extent of inhibitory effect on fertilization. The titer obtained by zona precipitate test was most close to the titer obtained by inhibitory effect on in vitro fertilization. The present study also demonstrated that at least 0.0375 ml of antiserum per female mouse, equivalent to 0.15-0.25% of body weight, was necessary for inhibition of fertilization in vivo by passive immunization with anti-zona serum.

We described a case of primary carcinoma of the cystic duct that conforms to previously established criteria. To our knowledge, this is the 21st recorded case; it was accidentally discovered during cholecystectomy. The features of all 21 cases are reviewed. Since these tumors tend to be treated surgically at an early stage because of the relatively early developement of clinical symptoms, such as right upper abdominal pain and palpable mass, caused by the obstruction of the cystic duct, the prognosis is better than that of other extrahepatic bile duct carcinomas.

This study shows that intraperitoneal injection of interleukin-1 (IL-1), followed by interleukin-2 (IL-2), can effectively eradicate murine ascitic tumor cells. This antitumor effect of IL-1 and IL-2 was abolished when administration of IL-2 preceded that of IL-1. Solid tumors inoculated subcutaneously (s.c.) into the back of mice were also sensitive to this combined i.p. therapy, indicating a systemically-operating antitumor mechanism. Splenocytes from tumor-bearing mice treated with IL-1 followed by IL-2 showed a strong tumor-neutralizing activity. The population responsible proved to be Lyt2.2 (CD8)-positive cells.
