[Immunological aspects of laboratory diagnosis of chronic urticaria].

High prevalence of allergic diseases necessitates search for new methods of laboratory diagnosis thereof. We studied the diagnostic significance of the count of cells expressing low-affinity receptors to IgE (CD23+ cells) and compared this test with skin tests with non-infectious allergens and measurement of total serum IgE. 104 patients with various forms of chronic relapsing urticaria were examined. The count of CD23+ cells was markedly increased in atopic urticaria. The increase in the count of these cells and correlation with the results of skin test were less expressed in infectious allergic urticaria. In other forms of chronic urticaria characterized by negative results of skin tests the count of CD23+ cells was normal. The level of total serum IgE was low virtually in all patients. Hence, the count of cells carrying low-affinity receptors to IgE is highly informative, detecting IgE-mediated reactions in the patients, though this parameter does not allow identification of the allergen. This test can be used in complex with other methods of allergodiagnosis, particularly in cases when skin tests are for this or that reason impossible.

[DNA synthesis in connective tissue elements of regenerating skin under the influence of thyrocalcitonin and hypoxia].

The influence of TCT on the proliferation activity of the connective tissue elements of the regenerating skin in normal and lowered partial oxygen tension was studied by means of H3-thymidin autoradiography. Continuous saturation of the organism with exogenous TCT is characterized by an increase in the count of cells during the S-period of mitotic cycle, the DNA synthesis intensification, and a considerable decrease in the number of silver grains over the nuclei in the course of the 24-hour observation period; this can testify to the acceleration of the cell passage of mitotic cycle stages in normal and low partial oxygen tension in hypoxia.

[Role of exogenous thyrocalcitonin in post-traumatic skin regeneration].

The character and completeness of posttraumatic skin regeneration, as well as the role of fibroblastic cells were studied under the effect of thyrocalcitonine (TCT). By means of cytological, morphological, histochemical autoradiographic, electron microscopic and some biochemical methods, stimulating effect of TCT on the cell proliferation and differentiation in the host regeneration was demonstrated. Application of TCT enhanced the main stages of collagenogenesis that, in its turn, promoted earlier transformation of granulous tissue into connective tissue and stimulated healing of experimental wounds.

[The importance of a study of the tears in the early diagnosis of infection in penetrating eye injuries].

Status of tears was studied in patients with penetrating wounds to the eyes using polarization optic microscopy to assess the type of morphological types of crystals, measurements of secretory IgA to assess local immunity status, and screening methods to estimate protein level from the relative coefficient. A total of 122 patients with penetrating corneal and corneoscleral wounds were examined, 48 of these without clinical signs of infection and 74 with clinical manifestations of an infection. For control 88 subjects without somatic diseases or ocular diseases were examined. Crystallography revealed predominance of two morphologic types, Nos. 3 and 5, whose crystal structures were taken as the normal types. Their detection rate was reduced in penetrating wounds to the eye. Secondary morphologic types Nos. 14 and 16 reliably predominated in "pure" injuries and a secondary morphologic type 14 M in patients with developing infection (in 19 patients this type predominated during the preclinical form of infection of the eye). Increased IgA levels were observed in patients with noninfected injuries and reduced ones during infection. An infection was found associated with reduced protein level.
