[Peripheral blood mononuclear leucocytes in patients with drug-sensitive and drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis].

The authors studied functional characteristics of mononuclear leucocytes in patients with drug-sensitive and drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. The study found decrease of the number of C3b- and Fcchi-receptorpositive monocytes and increase of their saturation activity in both categories of pulmonary tuberculosis before and after antituberculous therapy. The study revealed increase of interferons alpha and chi production and, at the same time, decrease of tumor necrosis factor alpha, which was more prominent in cases of drug-sensitive tuberculosis, and depression of interleukin 2 secretion, more prominent during chemotherapy in cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

[The interconnection between cytokines and the factors of bactericidal action of neutrophiles in patients operated on under the conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass].

The use of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with the development of a system inflammatory response. The subjects of the study were 48 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), operated on under the condition of CPB. The following parameters were measured: the content of cation proteins and active oxygen forms in neutrophiles, the digesting capacity of these cells, and the serum levels of interleukins (IL)-1beta, 1ra, -4, -6, -8, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha). The measurements were made before performing coronary bypass surgery, and also 6 and 24 hours after surgery. The results showed that the levels of cytokines and the bactericidal activity of neutrophiles were elevated in CHD patients before surgery. The changes after surgery included an increased macrophageal digesting capacity with switching to oxygen-independent mechanisms, as well as increased levels of TNF-alpha, IL-1ra, and IL-1ra:IL-1beta. The changes were more prominent 6 hours after surgery. Oxygen-dependent killing was controlled mostly by IL-6 during the pre-operative period, and by this plus TNF-alpha 24 hours after surgery. The content of cation proteins in neutrophiles before surgery correlated with the concentrations of TNF-alpha and IL-8. These interconnections weakened 6 hours after surgery and became stronger 24 hours after it.

[Clinical and immunologic correlations of gastroduodenal lesions in patients with bronchial asthma].

To study local immunity of the stomach in bronchial asthma (BA) and the role of some immunity factors deficiency in development of gastroduodenal disturbances in BA patients, we have examined 271 male and female patients aged 18 to 60 years with exogenic and mixed BA of different severity. Gastroduodenal erosions were endoscopically diagnosed in 61 (22.5%) patients. We discovered that gastroduodenal pathology in BA develops in local deficiency of secretory IgA (sIgA) and high content of IgG and CIC in the gastric mucus. We registered a dose-dependent effect of long-term oral therapy with systemic glucocorticoids (SGC) in BA on gastroduodenal pathology and local immunity. Physiological doses reduce concentrations of IgG and CIC in gastric mucus and, by attenuation of immunocomplex reactions in gastric mucosa, decreased the rate of gastroduodenal erosions. Treatment with supraphysiological doses of SGC breaks specific defense of gastric mucosa and makes erosions more frequent. Thus, the above derangement of humoral immunity of the stomach in patients with non-hormone-dependent BA has common manifestations and direction with local immunity of the respiratory airways in BA suggesting involvement of "common immune system of the mucosas" in BA.

[Hepatoprotectors containing phospholipids decrease the immunosuppressive effect of prednisolone in rats with experimental toxic hepatitis].

The experiments on rats with a model toxic hepatitis induced by tetrachloromethane showed that hepatoprotectors containing phospholipids (eplir and essentiale) introduced in combination with prednisolone decrease the immunodepressant effect of this glucocorticoid, as manifested by a decrease in the atrophy of thymus and an increase in the amount of blood lymphocytes, the number of splenic blasts, and the functional activity of mononuclear cells in C3b and Fc(gamma) receptors in peritoneal exudate.

[Functional status of peripheral blood monocyte in patients with Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis accompanied by opisthorchiasis].

The characteristics of the functional status of peripheral blood monocytes/macrophages in patients with Ixodes tick-borne acute borreliosis accompanied by opisthorchiasis invasion were studied. The study revealed a decrease in the phagocytic activity of monocytes and in the level of expression of cell receptors Fcgamma with the expression of cell receptors C3beta being normal.
