Rapidly rotating fermi gases

We show that the density profile of a Fermi gas in rapidly rotating potential will develop prominent features reflecting the underlying Landau-level-like energy spectrum. Depending on the aspect ratio of the trap, these features can be a sequence of ellipsoidal volumes or a sequence of quantized steps.

Total synthesis of (+/-)-2-isocyanoallopupukeanane

2-Isocyanoallopupukeanane (4) has been obtained in racemic form from methyl 2-exo-methylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-endo-carboxylate via dibromocarbene addition, S(N)2' displacement, chain extension, and elaboration of the unsaturated ketone 12c which underwent an intramolecular hetero-Diels-Alder reaction to afford 13 containing all the skeletal carbon atoms. The dihydropyran unit was cleaved by ozonolysis to give the tricarbocyclic intermediate which required seven more steps to complete the synthesis.

Fragmented and single condensate ground states of spin-1 bose Gas

We show that the ground state of a spin-1 Bose gas with an antiferromagnetic interaction is a fragmented condensate in uniform magnetic fields. The number fluctuations in each spin component change rapidly from being enormous (order N) to exceedingly small (order 1) as the magnetization of the system increases. A fragmented condensate can be turned into a single condensate state by magnetic field gradients. The conditions for existence and method of detecting fragmented states are presented.

General structure of bose-einstein condensates with arbitrary spin

Motivated by the recent discoveries of spin-1 and pseudo-spin-1/2 Bose gas, we have studied the general structure of the Bose gases with arbitrary spin. A general method is developed to uncover the elementary building blocks of the angular momentum eigenstates, as well as the relations (or interactions) between them. Applications of this method to Bose gas with integer spins ( f = 1,2,3) and half integer spins ( f = 1/2,3/2) reveal many surprising structures.
