Coincidence of primary malignant melanoma of skin and eye. Report of a case without B-K mole syndrome but with a further malignancy.

Although primary malignant melanomas of the skin or eye alone are not too rare, their coincidence is most uncommon. The case of a 41-year-old Caucasian male is reported who developed superficially spreading melanoma on the skin of his trunk 9 years after the enucleation of his right eye because of a fusiform melanoma of the choroidal membrane. Staging revealed a further malignancy: hemangiopericytoma inside and adjacent to the left psoas muscle. Both theoretical and practical conclusions to be drawn from the case are discussed.

[Age determination by teeth].

Of the many measurements cited in the literature, correlation with age can only be established for the length of the transparent root dentine and that of the pulp cavity. The chronological age can be estimated with 90% reliability (+/- 5 years) for subjects between the ages of 20 and 60 by evaluating the quotients of both measurements. The time involved for the examination can be considerably reduced by using a combination of photographic and roentgenologic methods. The good correlation with age however was not reproducible.

[On the development of the skin of the digital pulp in the early fetal period (author's transl)].

The skin of the digital pulp is of pathologic as well as of forensic interest. Investigations were made with the scanning electron microscope on the fingers of 27 fetuses to get a new insight into the development of this part of the skin. The formation of the peridermal cells is already striking in this region in the early fetal period. A certain grouping together of these peridermal cells appears to resemble the later developed epidermal ridge. The dermatoglyphics are fully developed by the end of the second trimenon. A more exact time sequence cannot be established due to fluxional transitions and, particularly, to marked individual veriations.
