Primary dural melanomas: report of two cases and review of the literature.

Two cases of primary melanoma of the central nervous system originating from the dura mater and without involvement of the leptomeninges are described. In one case, the tumor was located extradurally with firm attachment to the dura mater and dural melanosis. In the other case, the dura was involved diffusely with multiple discrete masses of 1 to 3 mm in diameter. A literature review revealed five other cases of primary dural melanoma. A discussion of the origin of primary dural melanoma is presented.

Tumoral calcinosis. A clinical and pathological study of eleven unreported cases in Turkey.

Clinicopathological observations of eleven cases of tumoral calcinosis are reported. All of the cases showed characteristic clinical and histopathological features of this unusual condition, but pathological findings did not elucidate all of its etiology and pathogenesis. Two of the patients were related. One of the patients showed skeletal changes characterized by diffuse calcium deposits with widespread soft-tissue calcification. The available data of the present study also led to the suggestion that the disease has a genetic background and that the primary defect may well be in the collagen which undergoes calcification.

Sarcomas of the larynx. Report of ten cases.

The clinical and pathologic findings of 10 laryngeal sarcomas (8 fibrosarcomas and 2 rhabdomyosarcomas) are reported. These cases constituted 0.02% of the 4,717 patients with carcinoma histologically verified at Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul from 1934 to 1980. Analysis of laryngeal fibrosarcomas reveals that they are more frequently seen in the fourth and fifth decades, while rhabdomyosarcomas of the larynx are rather tumors of childhood. They are generally less infiltrating than carcinomas and tend to grow as polypoid masses. Metastases are rare but recurrences are frequently seen.
