Analysis is made of the results of a comparative clinico-epidemiological study into the levels and mechanisms of occupational rehabilitation of 436 patients with long-term sequels of home and industrial craniocerebral injuries. The possibilities of social adaptation do not always correlate with the injury gravity and the psychopathological structure of its long-term sequels. An immediate relationship has been demonstrated between social and labor disadaptation and deformation of values orientations and personality aims, which influence labor prognosis to a considerably greater measure than disturbances of brain function.
The structure of neuropsychic and psychosomatic disorders was examined in workers of a large electrotechnical enterprise. Screening methods were used in the form of two questionnaires: screening of patients of the ambulatory Department of the Leningrad Research Institute of Neurology and Psychiatry as well as a multipurpose questionnaire for screening worked out at the Chair of Psychiatry, medical Psychology and Narcology of the Donetsk Medical Institute. Results of the study are described.

The author describes the results of clinico-psychopathological study of 68 patients with neurotic states (hysterical, anxiety-phobic) and a psychopath-like syndrome (affective-explosive, hystero-hypochondriac and litigious-quarrelsome) observed long after occupational craniocerebral traumas. Attention is drawn to a heterogenous nature of relationships of cerebral-organic and psychogenic-situational mechanisms in the origin of these symptom complexes. Different types of "an insight into the disease" (harmonic, nosocentrical-aggravational, pretentions and hypochondriac) reflecting a degree of disorganization of the motivational-value system of patients were identified on the basis of a comprehensive study of the personality. The mechanisms of psychological compensation were found to play an important role in the genesis of analyzed disturbances and the adaptive activity of patients. Guidelines of rehabilitative tactics with a special emphasis on the conduction of psycho- and socio-therapeutic measures are proposed.

Some results of audiometric studies in 272 patients with different psychoses (schizophrenia, presenile psychoses, alcoholic hallucinoses) were analyzed. The authors examined the auditory adaptation to threshold stimula and the time of reverse adaptation. In most of the cases adaptation was not attained or was lengthened. These studies did not reveal any nosological specificity in adaptational disturbances. In cases of auditory hallucinations the index of adaptational time had no principal differences either. These facts gave ground to consider the adaptational shifts as general nonspecific mechanisms in the pathogenesis of psychoses. An analysis of audiometric data make it possible to use them for prognostical purposes.

The authors describe a rare complication of local injection anesthesia, carried out in children for tooth removal: development of a specific granuloma due to Mucor and Nocardia mold fungi. The authors claim that the mycotic granuloma developed because of violation of the rules of asepsis, one of the possible violations being multiple use of disposable single-use syringes. No doubt, such complications can be easily prevented if asepsis regulations are strictly adhered to. The authors recommend the use of a separate sterile needle for every injection and treatment of the injection site with 1% iodine solution.
