[Propofol--new highly effective intravenous anesthetic].

A review is presented of revelant medical literature concerning potentialities of a new intravenous anaesthetic propofol that has come into widespread use as a means of inducing and maintaining anaesthesia, short-term and long-term sedation. Propofol allows an extremely prompt induction of anaesthesia and postanaesthetic recovery to be achieved, with the depth of anaesthesia easily controlled.

[Effect of hypergravity on the oxidative-antioxidative status of rats].

The adaptogenic and antioxidant properties of new Ukrainian plant drug "Poliphytolum" was investigated on the model of stress, which was caused of hypergravitation 2 and 5 N.m2/kg2 action. It was established that hypergravitation makes typical stressory disturbances in oxidative homeostasis. The normalization action of "Polyphytolum" on lipid peroxidation is more strong in liver, spleen and blood, and less more--in brain. It may be caused of low level the drug in the brain tissue.

[Thymus endocrine function and the immune system indices of cancer patients after neutron and gamma therapy].

Patients with head and neck and locomotor system tumors received neutron therapy in the total doses of 4-8 and 12-14 Gy which was followed by a pronounced dose-dependent decrease in the serum thymus factor and total blood-lymphocyte levels. The latter changes were predominantly due to a decrease in the non-T-non-B cell concentration. Following the treatment, a rise in the level of circulating immune complexes and those of IgA and IgG was observed. Changes in the immune system proved less apparent in patients with locomotor system cancer who had been given 20 Gy of gamma-ray radiation.

[The use of ceruloplasmin in combination with adjuvant polychemotherapy in stomach cancer].

Ceruloplasmin as a modulator was used for the first time in the clinical practice in 30 patients with gastric cancer in the course of postoperative intraabdominal adjuvant chemotherapy. It was established that ceruloplasmin was well tolerated by the patients and its use during polychemotherapy is accompanied by normalization of the levels of natural ceruloplasmin and iron in the blood serum that are usually reduced in patients with gastric cancer, reduces activation of lipid peroxidation and improves the course of postoperative period. Ceruloplasmin possesses a week immunomodulating action in polychemotherapy which is expressed in the increase of the percentage content of T-lymphocytes. Use of ceruloplasmin tended to improve the functional state of the cardiovascular system.

[An experimental analysis of the interrelation of the kinetics of spontaneous blood serum chemiluminescence and of the kinetics of the tumor process].

On the material of 5 strains of transplanted rat tumours (sarcoma 45, carcinoma Guérin, carcinosarcoma Walker, lymphosarcoma Pliss, erythromyelosis Shvets) and also mice tumours induced by Moloney and Rauscher viruses and on the models of chemical carcinogenesis of rats: lung (intratracheal injection of 3,4-benz(a)pyrene), breast (DMBA) and liver DENA) was shown that tumorous processes of various origin are accompanied by either elevation or inhibition of blood serum spontaneous chemiluminescence (SChL). In all investigated cases the extreme points of SChL curve coincide with the moment of change of tumour growth kinetics.

[Spontaneous blood serum chemiluminescence in detecting recurrences and metastases of cancer of the proximal portion of the stomach and esophagus].

The report deals with the results of examination of 48 healthy donors and 261 patients suffering from malignant tumors of cardia and esophagus, 84 patients after radical surgery included. Spontaneous chemoluminescence (CL) of blood serum was shown to depend on the general condition of the patient and tumor involvement before treatment: there is a direct correlation between these factors and luminescence intensity. Therefore, CL may be used as a laboratory test providing necessary information for developing treatment modality for each individual case. Within 0.5-60 months after radical treatment, the rise in the intensity of blood serum CL (60-100% and more) was registered in cases of pyo-inflammatory complications (peritonitis, mediastinitis, pleural empyema, etc.) and recurrence and metastatic spreading. A rise in CL intensity by more than 50% and a steady tendency to further increase may be interpreted as a pointer to recurrence or metastasis development.

[Spontaneous blood serum chemiluminescence in patients with cancer of the esophagus and proximal portion of the stomach].

Based on the maternal pertaining to 193 patients with cancer of the esophagus and proximal gastric portion, 22 patients with non-tumor diseases of the stomach and esophagus, 19 donors (aged 18-25 years) and 10 practically healthy subjects aged 34-67 years, it was found that tumor invasion of the stomach body and the presence of such aggravating factors as grade IV dysphagia, inflammatory complications etc. are associated with a significantly increased intensity of serum chemiluminescence. Anesthesia and other factors as a concomitant of surgery reduce considerably the level of blood serum chemiluminescence during the operation, whereas an intensive postoperative therapy retains its initial level. The development of complications during the operation and after it is accompanied with 1.5--2 times or more increased luminescence. Radical surgical and combined treatment would condition the normalization of the luminescence. Radiation treatment first increases and then decreases the luminescence down to normal values.
